jenf3 0 Posted June 30, 2007
Hi can anyone tell me how far under the skin do they put the port? I'm only 1 week post op and still have soreness in that area which I understand is normal, but there seems to be a lump and I was hoping that is not the port, and what happens when you lose a lot of weight can you see/feel it more?? And just how long is that needle they are going to put in me for a fill, I hope I dont pass out when I see it!
Suzzzie. 3 Posted July 2, 2007 Lol. So do you want the port deep, or not? You want it deep enough to not see it,. and yet you want a small needle? Can't have it both ways!! And I really have no idea how far down it is. I;m 16 days post op and my whole port area is still swollen and hard.
kt_999 0 Posted July 2, 2007 Hi Jen My port is quite high on the right hand side under my breast and stitched to my rib area so it can't be that deep. At first it was much larger (scar tissue/swelling I assume)... now you can't see it with your naked eye but I can definitely feel it!!! In fact I can make out sides vs top so I guess a fill will be easy for my doc!
JJS 0 Posted July 18, 2007 I am 3 weeks post-op. My BMI at time of surgery was 36.6 I asked my Dr. if I could have the low profile port instead of the initial size port that they normally put in. He said that he would since the location on my upper right abdomen does not have too much fat there. It didn't seem like he normally places the low profile port in people initially. He said that he normally switches people to the low profile when they reach the target weight as a reward. I guess I was lucky. My port area is still swollen it has gone down a bit. It does take a long time for the swelling to go down.
kland 0 Posted July 18, 2007 I'm not sure how far under the port is, but I can press in that area and feel it very easily. I've let others feel it too! It probably is a little different with everyone. I have a low profile port that is placed a little left of center and about 5" below my bra line. The scar is about 1" above it. The injection for the fill was nothing...absolutely nothing. I just got my first one yesterday and didn't even feel the prick of the needle. I was a little nervous too, but it was just so easy. The doctor had me lay down and place my hands under my rump. He said this brings the port a little closer to the top. He felt around for a split second and then went right into the port with the needle. I braced myself for a shot in my stomach, but there was just no need! I felt a little bit of a flushing sensation and then it was over. It was only slightly odd, but not painful at all.
