At what point did you make goal?

Recommended Posts

I would like to know, for you, at what month post-op did you make goal weight, if you have? Thanks!

A desired goal is an arbitrary number. It is a goal. I hit my minimum weight at 7 months and was stable for almost a year. Then I lost 10 more pounds. Many months went by and now I have lost a few more below that new minimum.

I reached my surgeon's goal weight at 7 months, and my personal goal at just over 8 months. I now, at 14 months, have finally (I believe) stabilized at 18 pounds below my personal goal.

The rate of weight loss is highly individual. You can't really make projections based on others' experiences. For instance, my 7 months to surgeon's goal was aided by the fact that I lost 42 pounds before getting WLS.

@

Its not how quickly you get to goal. I also don't want to see anyone comparing their loss to anyone else. I reached goal at 7 months out. I am a little below goal now.

I am sitting 6 pounds from my goal right now. At my current rate of loss, I may hit goal the end of August. That will put me at a year for 85 pounds. Slower, but I'll get there!

I used to fret about my slow weight loss, but in the end, it doesn't matter :)

My surgeon didn't set a goal... and it is an arbitrary number.

I hit my goal of losing 150# in 14 months

I lost another 15-20 about a year later

I have since regained those 20!

Thanks, everyone. I quickly realized I did not have good information about the speed of weight loss, and thought I might lose 75# in a year, but lost that in 3 months. I thought it would take 24 months to make goal weight. But, seeing that most are getting to goal weight much sooner, I am adjusting my thinking. I don't feel pressure to match anyone's loss, but it is pretty clear to me that goal weight will "be coming around the mountain", as in "she'll be coming 'round the mountain when she comes".

My bariatric doctor told me during my initial consultation that 90% of his patients lose 95 pounds during the first year with gastric bypass. He had never had a sleeve or lap band patient, so that was the only statistic he had on his past patients. To me, 95 pounds in one year would have been amazing. When I switched to VSG, it seemed like 95 pounds in one year would be almost impossible to reach.

I was more than ecstatic when I lost 95 pounds five months after surgery. When I lost 140 pounds at 7 months post op, I hit goal. I would love to keep this weight off forever and I know it might be quite a struggle to do so. I've read that most post op patients gain about 10%-20% of their weight back after two years. That would be about a 15 pound gain for me, so I'm trying to decide if I should lose 15 more pounds now.

I hit my goal, which was 108 pounds lost at 19 months. It took 7 months to lose the last 10-15 pounds and 4 months to lose the last 4 pounds.

I don't even have a goal! I always wanted to be 180, I'm 5'8 and that seemed like a fantasy number. Now I'm in the 170 and I'm thinking maybe 150? How does one even come up with A number? I'm guessing BMI number? I guess I will know it when I get there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
