I've been meeting with the surgeon, dietitian, and councilor. I thought everything was progressing good. I've even lost 18 pounds. Then the councilor said I wasn't ready for surgery. I need behavior therapy and medication for anxiety..... that guy is totally off my Christmas card list this year.... Has anyone else had to do extra therapy? I'm not against it just didn't expect it. I was geared up for surgery in September now it's all on hold until "I'm ready". This did not help my emotional and binge eating habits. I know I can get through it, but I just want to scream.....????

@leana123 I am sorry for your disappointment. I didn't have psych tell me that but I did have Nutrition say that to me. It is something we don't want to hear that's for sure. I have been going to therapy since August '14 and it helps. This will be my third WLS, the FINAL one! For me it is all about, what will I do differently this time around that I didn't do with the Lap band and/or the Sleeve......answer - Counselling; monthly support groups and monthly nutritionist appointments.

I would say, get the counselling BUT also, go get a second opinion. Neither of which will hurt you or the process and who knows, maybe your second opinion will give you the "all clear".....?

Chin up - keep us posted

Hugs

That's not at all what you wanted to hear, leana123. Very sorry.

Anything that delays the surgery date is not welcome....especially when the calendar year is over 1/2 over.

My physc eval was this week....early into my 6 month period. I was worried about it being so early because I've not lost as much as I was hoping for by the appointment.

Hopefully you can nail down the ongoing weight loss and prove that you are committed to achieving the result. There are only certain aspects you can control with this process. Try to get solid amounts of sleep, exercise as hard as you can and maintain discipline in the kitchen.

^^^^^^^^^sounds like a lot......but achieving all three is easier.....buy doing each portion. You'll sleep better if you hit it hard at the gym......you'll maintain discipline in the kitchen if you use the onboard electronics on the treadmill/elliptical to track your calories burned. It's hard to break down and overeat when you've spent considerable effort to burn off the calories. A 400 calorie candy bar takes me over 1/2 hour (or more) of hard walking to burn. Sure does make me think hard....really hard.....about eating it.

I wish you the best with this latest wrinkle.

I'm sure you didn't just wake up one day and decide to have weight loss surgery....you went through the various diets and exercise plans over and over again like we all have. This time, it's easier to commit to this plan and work it hardcore......because you know it's going to lead you to the WLS that will be an even bigger tool for you to get it ALL off.

Good luck. Nail down the three things above and prove to the evil therapist that you are consitently losing the weight right now.

Did you ask him what he feels your goal should be and how he is assessing your readiness? If he didn't communicate that goal to you it would be good to ask him that. How can you reach a goal if you don't know what it is?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
