One week and freaking out

Recommended Posts

So I am one week away from my surgery and I am freaking out. I have beyond confident this entire time I have had no doubts at all. But now that I'm 2 days into my pre op diet and completely hating it with a passion and a week away from surgery I just can't help but think get out while you can. It's mainly a "ohh man I'll never eat wings again or cake or pasta" stupid things I know I don't need and shouldn't eat all the time. I did great with the dieting for the past 6 months and listening to the rules but now I'm quivering in my boots. Please please tell me I'm no alone!!!!

@@AWD12368 You are definitely not alone! I think it's normal to be nervous and have doubts (my opinion). During the time when I was still in the "am I doing the right thing?" phase I was focused mainly on what I'd be giving up - my favorite burrito, ice cream, pizza. food has been my best friend for most of my life. Now what I've started to focus on are the good things that will come into my life after surgery - being able to walk without knee pain, more self confidence, no more BP meds, more energy, etc. I want to actually write out a list and hang it up where I can see it everyday. My surgery is this Friday and I'm sure between now and then I'll still have a little of that feeling, but I know for me this is what I have to do. Hang in there, and good luck!

Why won't you ever eat that stuff again? I'm 11 months out, and I've had wings, cake and Pasta. Do I make a habit of it? Hell no, but once in a while on special occasions I've done it.

Truth is, you will (hopefully) get to the point where you are losing weight and feeling so good, you don't want to eat the junk anymore. It just becomes second nature to choose healthier alternatives. And actually, as long as wings aren't fried, they really aren't a bad choice ;) Good protien!

Having second thoughts is totally normal. Especially thinking you're going to "miss" certain foods. Number one, you won't, because once you heal up you can have any food you want if you so choose. Number two, I choose to eat healthy 98% of the time because I enjoy feeling and looking like I'm 20 years younger. I also enjoy wearing a size 8. :)

Good Luck with your surgery!

I was scared to death as the date got closer, but so dang thankful when it was done. It is a process. There will be change. The sleeve is just a tool, not a magic wand. It is a new beginning and there is a great deal deal of discovery ahead, I was blown away at the many self discoveries I made about my relationship with food that I didn't know I had. Be open to the truth and doors will open. May sound kind of New Age, but this is a physical as well as mental and spiritual journey. Fear is just a signal that something new is about to happen.

BTW, this was what I wrote the day before my surgery:

Thanks for all the encouragement. Tomorrow's the big day. After losing 16 pounds on the pre-opp diet I was really second guessing this decision. But I know the 16 pounds would be back on before New Year's without this. Many of the challenges I think I will face have been addressed in this topic and it seems manageable.

I'm glad that I'm doing this before major health problems happen and I "have to do it."

Can't wait to start dating again in a few months and do some before and after comparisons of the women who respond on Match.com. From what I understand, as you get closer to a healthier size, your confidence as well as energy improves...and women are highly attracted to confidence (not cockiness). This is one of my top eight reasons for doing this surgery.

The top reason is still health. I see little yellow flags popping up, if I stay at this weight I'll either have heart troubles, knee problems or diabetes. So I am mentally prepared for a crappy few weeks, encouraged by some solid weight loss followed by learning a new normal.

Looking forward to not being the fat sweaty guy.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
