July 10th GB & SO sick of clear liquids!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! :) My name is Lolly and I'm a 44 years young single mom of 2 great kids, a girl and a boy, ages 21 and 16 respectively. I just found this app so this is my first post. I'm thrilled to say that I had my gastric bypass on July 10th and thankfully everything went very smoothly! :) I'm on day 8 of Clear liquids (had to be on them for 3 days before surgery) and I feel like I'm going out of my mind! Has anyone else struggled with this? I have to be on them for another 4 freakin' days and I'm SO not looking forward to it. I'm literally feeling depressed and annoyed all the time. Is this unusual? I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same issues or am I just being a baby? I honestly had no idea it would be this difficult, but when friends and family regularly talk about and eat various foods that I love around me, it has become really frustrating.

By the way, my start weight was 299, and I'm down to 289 already, but I'm pretty sure that's all just Water weight so far. Anywho, I just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully meet some nice people throughout this process. So it's nice to "meet" you all! :)

Lolly

I had GB July 8th and this liquid diet is killing me. My husband made chicken tonight and the house smelled amazing. I got a lil irritated and down. I can't wait for this stage to be over. It's hard to have a positive attitude when your miserable but I try my hardest and always remember why I chose this journey. Good Luck.

Oh my goodness, I am so with you! Had my bypass on July 8. I had to do a two week liquid diet prior to surgery and now that i am a week and a day post-op, I am so over the liquid diet stage. I will be seeing my doctor and nutritionist next Tuesday when at that time I expect they will "graduate" me to pureed food. Can't come soon enough. My emotions are a roller coaster. I feel tired and yup, cranky. I actually miss chewing. Can't seem to seep well. I don't think your being a baby at all. This is tough!!! But I just keep my eye on the prize. I can make it and I know you can too. Hang in there!!

I am not sure what "normal" is, but I can tell you that I have experienced it as well. I am getting in my liquids, my Protein rest when I am tired, and yet I still am experiencing lightheadedness. My doctor gave me a prescription for nausea and it seemed to help with the dizzy/lightheadness. I can tell you it has got better each day, but even a week post-op I am still experiencing it to some extent

I think it makes it so much worse that we cant do much at this stage. Just lay there on the couch healing and watching those damn food commercials. Ugh. I suggest keeping as busy as possible. This is more a mind game then anything else. Have to just decide food is not important anymore. I know its hard. Im 3 weeks out. Im there with you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
