Get a bunch of samples and try them. Try powders, pre-made and Protein waters/drinks. A few popular brands are premiere protein, GENEPRO, Isopure, Syntrax, Unjury to name just a few. There are soy isolates, whey isolates and plant based formulas. Most nutritionist recommend whey isolate. Concentrates are not as potent. Unflavored powders can often be mixed into warm things like Soups, broths, and teas.

I did not have a pre-op diet, but I was on full liquids for the first 2 weeks post-op. By week one I was tired of the same drink so I began experimenting. If I hadn't figured out a way to add variety I would have gone nuts.

Word of advice; buy only enough to last the first week or two post-op. Some people's palate's change after surgery. Some people become lactose intolerant. Save your receipts in the event you need to return something because these drinks can get pricey.

You'll really have to try them out yourself to see what you like. For example, so many people love Premier Protein and I think they taste like butthole. My fave is Syntrax Nectar because they come in all kinds of yummy fruit flavors.

Lol! I hate premiere Protein too!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
