Multi-Disciplinary Surgical Prep Regimen

Recommended Posts

My insurance is TRS Aetna and the require a multi disciplinary surgical prep regimen. Has anyone run into this? I am ok with the consultation with a dietician and decreased calorie diet (dietician can help with that too), but who in the heck does a behavior modification program? Where can I get that? I have to start on an exercise regimen, supervised by an exercise therapist or qualified personnel. Who would do this? I dont want to pay anymore money that I have to. Can my general doctor do it? I do not want to be denied coverage. Any help is appreciated!

Do you have a surgeon already? I didn't have to do as many things as you list but the bariatric coordinator at the surgery center had people for all my insurances requirements.

I know who I want to use and have been in contact with them. She has hooked me up with a nutritionist. I do need to talk to her again and find out if the surgeon can do the rest. My only issue is that I live 5 hours away. That is the closest in network doctor. It is ridiculous! I wanted to do all I could locally to keep from traveling so much; that is why I feel so overwhelmed I think.

Which surgery did you have and how are you doing with it?

I'm having lap band next month. I'm super excited and ready to go!

I had to travel about 40 minutes to the nearest surgeon and all the people I used were near the surgery center. My travel wasn't as long but they worked hard at getting multiple appointments on the same day so I didn't have to make as many trips. Maybe if you explain your situation they will be able to help you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
