Bus or truck drivers with sleeve

Recommended Posts

I'm a bus driver going to have gastric sleeve surgery in 2 weeks. I have a bus route I will need to do 4 days after surgery. I am taking a helper to lift bags but I am seriously wondering if I will be capable of making the drive. It will be 4 hours total drive time (bus is automatic) with 1 hour layover. What do you think?

I'm a bus driver but just for the city, I took off for 3 weeks but the fatigue is pretty bad since your not eating and you just put your body through alot. Honestly you can do it though make sure you haven't your Vitamins especially B12.

No way... You could still be on narcotics, too. Sitting and bouncing during the drive might drive your incisions crazy.

Thank you jaterika that's very helpful to know what I'm in for. When you went back to work after 3 weeks were you in any pain while driving? My doctor isn't sending me home with narcotics so my head being clear won't be an issue. I more worried about exhaustion and pain.

My pain was minimum I honestly didn't take my pain meds after the first 2 days but the bumpy roads might irritate you but as long as you take your Vitamins n B12 especially b12 your energy will be pretty good

I would suggest taking time off and not be in a rush to get back to work. I know what people say they went back 4 days later. However abdominal surgery is major surgery. And 10 days after discharge from the hospital is critical you run the risk of blood clots during thay time. Also I agree with the fatigue and I took the Vitamin B 12 complex and was still fatigue. Everyone body is different and if you have FMLA take it. That will secure your job. And get paid by your disability if you are paying into the insurance it's your money. Your work does not need to know the full details only thay you are having abdominal surgery

I am 3 weeks post op and to be honest the first two weeks I could not imagine being at work. I went through changes particularly the first week. My temperature was off. Fatigued, discomfort and I did have pain meds but only used maybe the first two days after discharge. I was signed off for 4 weeks and the was due to the encouragement of my wife and my friends and I am so glad I took their advice. My doctor did say to me thay I would not be able to do a full 8 hour day sitting in front of the computer especially during the 1st week

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
