So I am postop day 4, I do not feel hungry at all. I had a SF carnation instant Breakfast with 1/2 scoop Protein Powder and 8 oz of milk for breakfast which took me 1.5 hours to drink, then I had about 24 oz of Water throughout the day and some SF Jello then another carnation drink over 1.5 hours for dinner. I don't know if I am ever feeling full I'm just drinking sips cause I hiccup or burp every sip which is still slightly uncomfortable as I'm sure I'm still swollen. I went for 2 walks today and took a nap. Does this sound about right for how many days out I am?? I am so worried to screw things up!

It is so good to read your post and remember what i was doing at day 4. I feel so good now, It is so easy to forget.

You sound about right to me at day 4, especially the fear of messing things up. It's a scary time but in my experience the fear passes but took me about 3 months before I relaxed and "felt" everything was going to be OK.

For me it was a steep learning curve to learn a new way to eat/drink. Baby steps.

Everyone kept saying to me-follow the doc's orders and everything will be fine. Complications are rare.

Best to you on your new journey. I am so excited for you.

G'day Woodland,

Firstly, I'm no expert. All I can give you is my experiences...

And here they are...

I'm 20 weeks post-op and am yet to feel hungry. Not once in 20 weeks. So I'd not be concerned about that.

Your assumption that you're still swollen sounds about right to me. And don't forget, the difference between not full and overly full can be as little as one or two TEASPOONS of fluids/food. So, seeing that liquids move thru the sleeve much quicker than solids, it's possible that if you continue to consume fluids at that rate, you may never feel full. (I mean, you DEFINITELY will once you hit more solid foods.. I promise!!)

Two walks and a nap sounds pretty spot on as well.

So, in my completely non-exoert opinion, you're doing fine. If you're really unsure tho, give your Doc or NUT a call. They really do know stuff...

Good luck with it...

Keep us all posted on your progress...

Kinda

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
