1 week post op and feeling blue

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 7/7/15 and seem to be doing fine at home. Still on liquids with no issues. Had a tough time with nausea and vomiting in the hospital. Today I am feeling depressed and wondering why I have done this to myself. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

I felt a little blue soon after surgery. I felt fine with the liquid diet, but I was so exhausted and wondering if it was worth it. Now that I'm 5 weeks out I feel great and have no regrets. If this lasts more than a couple of days, I would recommend talking to your doctor about it.

I too had nausea & vomiting up to 4 days post-op, hated everything & everyone & doubted my decisions, but I am now 2 weeks & 1 day post-op and feel so much better, just tired all the time. I'm down 15 lbs. and just looking forward now to a happier me! You will feel better soon too!

Believe me almost Everyone feel this way in the beginning. I had my surgery May 12th. I cried constantly I felt terrible. I missed eating my favorite foods it was bad. But after awhile you get used to it and it get a lot better. You learn to eat differently. I'm 2 months out and I'm down 50 lbs. so I'm loving the sleeve now and love shopping for new clothes. I can eat pretty much what I want now just in much smaller portions. Keep your head up. It gets a lot better.

I have been miserable since surgery, have had multiple complications and regret it every day. I'm in my 5th week. Its tougher for some than others but they say normally that only lasts a couple weeks. The 3rd week is hard for some because of what they call the 3rd week stall. Just keep ur head up and it'll get better soon ????

Please don't feel blue. The reality is that the surgery is now over, and it will be so much easier to get to your weight loss goals. Keep looking forward!

So normal!! around the one week mark I was like "what have I done!?!?" I think it's a food depression... 2 weeks of a liquid diet before.. you hit week 3 and realize how much time you have left until you can eat regular food (even though it's not that much time at all.. it just seems that way) and you get super depressed. Work through it! You'll make it!

Im 7/6 and I feel the same way. I had an upset stomach last night and couldn't sleep. I was asking myself what the hell had I done.... But I'm trying to remember that I'm still very new and things will get easier. I have to believe that. Try to distract yourself when those thoughts come around and don't stew... Makes it worse.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
