Just scrolled through Forum topics and took a looksy at the one focused on gastric sleeve complications!! I've been reading such awesome great things for so long and reading this knocked me on my rear. How do we know the leak rates of surgeons especially in Mexico and are their specific things that are going wrong procedure wise or in post op care/eating??

Enlighten me please!

I don't know about Mexico specifically because my surgery was here, but your surgeon should be able (and willing) to tell you about complication rates.

I just got scared last night as well. I went to a seminar and felt good about moving forward so i set up my first appointment. Then i came home and read all these complications and panicked a little.

Nothing in life comes without some risk, I had my sleeve done in Mexio and could not be happier. Almost all the Dr's not only double staple but overstich the sutures. Leaks are extremely rare. Think of all the complications that come with obesity, and those are almost guaranteed!

I also had concerns my surgery is July 20 but there always risk but I looked into my Dr. And his practice and who he practiced under and they have had zero leakage ! My dr let me know that most ppl with leakage rush there food intake and do not flow the diet . good Luck

I went to a seminar and my Dr discussed the risk and complications of having the sleeve surgery and at first I was "no this is not for me". But then I got to thinking about me having diabetes and high blood pressure. And the possibility of having a toe or a limb removed or even a heart attack or stroke. So there are risks and complications in being obese. So no more fear for me.

@@Timeforme15 ironically I did the same thing at the same time (last night). I have a really supportive friend and I called her to tell her that I had severely freaked myself out. She told me that it was smart for me to do research and realize that it's not all rainbows and butterflies, but that I also needed to remember how rare it is. Only a tiny amount of overall people who get the sleeve sign up for these forums, and then an even tinier amount have complications.

The other thing is that any/all procedures come with complications. You can get your wisdom teeth out or tonsils removed and get an infection or worse. I had to get an endoscopy for my surgeon and I had some stomach pain afterwards. After googling a little bit I was surprised at the horror stories of complications and its a simple 20 minute procedure. Even the other day Jimmy Fallon tripped on a rug and fell on his hand and almost had to have his finger amputated.

Don't get me wrong, it's normal to be scared and I am nervous/scared as well. But the vast majority of people are fine or have minor discomfort. And like some others said, the complications of being obese are all but guaranteed.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
