I was sleeved on June 8, 2015 by Dr Elias Ortiz with ALM (A Lighter Me). There is also another Dr. Ariel Ortiz with CC - another group. I drove to San Diego by myself from Scottsdale, AZ. Remy from ALM picked me up at the parking lot at the border (US side). He is so very charming and friendly and drove myself and another couple of gals he picked up at the SD Airport to our hotel. We stayed at the Grand which was absolutely stunning and has a "medical" floor staffed with a full time nurse and with special beds and baths. Free room service provided broth, popsicles and apple juice. 60" flat screen TV's - flat out gorgeous!

Next day we were picked up and dilivered to the hospital where the care was amazing. Rooms were extremely clean but not ultr-modern. All equipment was definately state-of -the-art. I would say there were probably 3 nurses for 8 patients. All the nurses and staff spoke great English! Care was super and felt individualized. On the morning of the 3rd day in the hospital we had our leak test and then we were released. Abraham (another cutie) took us back to the hotel where we received our meds and instructions and were reassigned rooms. He came back after a couple of hours and took us on a tour of TJ which included the best homemade ice dream you ever tasted! We then visited a trust worthy Mexican pharmacy where you could purchase Prilosec, Vitamins, etc. We then went to a shopping area for souveneirs and had pictures taken with the Zebra Donkeys. We really bonded with the group of people we went through our surgery with and I am still in touch with several of them! We did the same thing (shopping etc) on the next day. On Friday, I was driven back to my car. After lots of hugs, I drove the 6 hours back home! All in all, it was more like a spa vacation than a medical trip. I could not have been more impressed. ALM is sponsoring a cruise next year for its alums and staff. I really want to be there! They are also expanding their plastic surgery options - again my hand is raised.

I am 9 days post op Mexico surgery and I could not be happier with my Surgeon or the staff. I went to Dr Sergio Quinones at Pompeii Surgical Center. He does not Pay for advertising on this site so you will not see his name here, but I assure you he is amazing! Go to Pompeiisurgical.com and you will be called back by a delightful man named Bill Yanez, he is the coordinator and will answer all your questions. Good Luck! They all were amazing and I could not have asked for better care! Tell Bill Tia sent you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
