Before or after Cancun Vacation ?

Recommended Posts

Would you have procedure done at 10 weeks before an all inclusive vacation to Mexico.............or put it off 3-4 months so you can have your last hoorah in Cancun. I want to get this done, but don't want to be miserable on vacation.

Nope. But I'm only three weeks post-op. Can't even fathom going on a real vacation yet.

Depends on how bad you want it. I lost 50+ lbs in that first 3-4 months so I'd rather have that than anything else. Besides at 10 weeks post-op I was on Regular foods. You could still eat it probably just wouldn't be much. You may actually enjoy your vacation more when your not focused on food, you'll be amazed at how many other things you can direct your attention to. Good luck! @@hawkeyJeff

At ten weeks you will probably feel fine to go on vacation. I went on a week long beach vacation at week five and did fine. By then I was on regular food and my energy levels were begining to return so it was a nice vacation. I had already lost some weight by then and was feeling much better with the weight gone. good luck on your decision and your surgery.

You shouldn't have to put off the surgery. At 10 weeks out most people are feeling pretty normal. You probably won't be able to try very much of the cuisine (or any of the alcohol) offered in the all inclusive package, but I'll bet you'll be having so much fun otherwise, you won't miss it.

I went on vacation 4 weeks post op and had no issues at all. The heat doesn't get to me at all now. I personally would get it done now. I will be 10 weeks post op this Friday and have lost more than 50 lbs since pre-op diet. Traveling is much more enjoyable as I easily fit into an airplane seat. You will be able to eat pretty much anything you want by then, just less of it. It really is not a big deal, you just eat less. I don't really feel like boozing much, it is a hot button topic on this forum.

Going on a cruise in November and can't wait to try those excursions that I have been avoiding because of the weight limit of 300 lbs.

I say go for it! And sounds like most people are saying the same thing. Let us know what you decide or how the vacation went. :)

Ok. Sounds like I should do it! Now assuming it takes longer, what's the least time u would do it pre Cancun? 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6?weeks? I have psych consult next week, so not sure how long it will take after that

Sadly you may not get your money's worth at the all inclusive resort... The booze may be a different reaction than before. A LOT LESS

Gonna guess you are NOT gonna stuff yourself at buffets either.

Water sports can be fun if the doc gives the ok for ocean / pool/ hot tubbing ....maybe check their rules if you want a pain and infection free time.. DO have FUN????!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
