Dr. Michael Feiz - Any thoughts

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of selecting Dr. Michael Feiz as my surgeon for the glastric sleeve. Anyone else used him in the past for the gastric sleeve procedure, and have thoughts, comments, grievances to share?

Thanks.

I started with his group but the office was unorganized and it seemed that the follow up support was not up to par. I wanted to go with a Center of Excellence so I ended up with Dr. Jeremy Korman at LA Bariatrics/Marina Weight Loss. The whole team is amazing. My surgery is Monday 7/20 and I am in excellent hands. I'm a nurse and believe me I have done my research. The whole process has taken about 6 months and has been well worth it.

How far along did you get with Dr. Feiz before you switched over to Dr. Korman?

I went to what was supposed to be a free seminar at 12noon, and then meet with the surgeon, but it turned out to be very disorganized. They said instead of meeting with Dr. Feiz, I was going to meet with the PA, but by 12:40pm, after they stuck me in a room, no one came in. I finally left the room and told them just what of thought of them and it was not pleasant. They called me to apologize and then told me they were not in my network, so if I wanted Dr.Feiz then Dr. Lygass would do the surgery and he was in the network, well then what did I need Dr. Feiz for. They knew after speaking with them I was not going back. Cannot comment on his surgical abilities, but very disorganized.

I went to Dr Scott Cunneen at Cedars-Sinai. Well organized program, great staff. Very happy with the whole process

My surgeon was Dr. Feiz. He seemed nice for the ten seconds I met him before the surgery. He never went out and told my husband how it went. I never saw him afterward. Absolutely zero support from his staff. Nothing pre surgery for education and preparedness. Am certain I will have no follow up care so I am relying heavily on these boards. They did get my insurance to pay with a bmi of 33.4 so there's that. And from what I understand his surgical skills are excellent.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
