Surgery July 20th preop diet headaches

Recommended Posts

So I called to set up my preop testing for my July 20th RNY! I'm so excited and can't wait for my new life to start. I started my preop diet today, and I have a really bad headache! Maybe it's my stomach and my fat yelling to feed it? Has anyone experienced this on their preop diet? Thanks for your help!????????????????

I just started my 2 week liquid diet today. I was warned about headaches. So far, I found that having a Protein Shake helped with it immensely.

Maybe I'll drink half of one I already had my shakes and lean meal for the day. Thanks! I didn't think this would happen.

Well I tried a shake, green tea for some caffeine and nothing! I still have a headache! Uhhh I'm sure it's my stomach and fat crying for food! I hope this will subside by morning. Uhhhh.

I haven't done the preop diet, but I did do Joe's juice diet from Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead and the first few days were very painful. Headaches, body aches, feel like you have the flu and that's from your body detoxing. If you can fight through it, in a couple of days you should feel pretty good. If you can't, you can slow it down by taking a piece of bread, crackers, or eating something with some sugar although it being your preop diet, you really shouldn't be taking in sugar or carbs since it's to help shrink your liver. More Water will help to flush it faster too.

So my headaches come and go. i ended up eating some turkey meat and more and it helped. I just hope this is not a constant thing weeks after the surgery. But I think it's all the detoxing from all the bad stuff I use to eat.

Be careful its supposed to be liquids only .When I had my headache I drank a small cup of milk and that helped

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
