Greetings from Michigan

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was banded on March 15, 2007. Surgery done in Ypsilanti, MI by Dr. Schram. To date I have lost 30 pounds. However I lost that the first month and have not lost more since then. I have had 3 fills. I think I may need another one. Any thoughts? I am sure I have overeaten the past 2 weeks. Vacation and Daughters High School Graduation party. What damage happens with overeating? Can it be corrected?

Thanks in advance for replies and advice.

Robin

Robin,

Did you feel any restriction with any of your fills? If so, I wouldn't think that you have damaged your band...the only thing I think you could do by overeating is stretch out your pouch....I don't know...maybe after your next fill you will feel restriction....I go for my second fill on Monday...the first one I couldn't really tell any difference, hoping this one will give me some restrictions...

Hi Robin! I'm a Michigander too

I was lucky enough to feel restricted on my 2nd fill, but everyone is different. The best advice I got from my doc was to limit my portion to 1/2 cup, then see if I am still hungry. Don't test your band!

Also, I have to agree that the first 30lbs was a piece of cake, but I really had to fight for the next 10. I gained a few back due to some ice cream splurges and not exercising, but I just got a new fill and I'm back on track.

Best of luck to you!

maria

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
