For any of you that had your surgery at Des Peres...Have you attended the support group? I'm 5 months out. I think it might be a good time for me, but I wanted to get an impression of it before I go. I'm busy and don't live close so I'd rather not waste my time if it's a dud.

Thanks in advance.

Hi. Is this thread still active? I'm from Belleville, IL. Sleeved by Dr Eagon at Barnes 11/2015. I could use a support buddy if you're in the market. Are you attending the BJC support group in West County?

@MissKathy2015 I still respond...lol. I was sleeved by Dr. Ricks at Des Peres on 10/2016. Des Peres has a very active support group, but I don't know if it is open to the public or patients only. I'm always willing to lend an ear. Currently training to run the hot chocolate 15k in December. Sounds more impressive than it is...I'm currently on Day 3 of C25K. What do you like to do to stay active?

I was sleeved at Des Peres, I have never made it to a support group. It is a good 45 minute drive from home and I haven't wanted to make the trip for nothing.

After the kinds of questions people were asking in my pre-op group, I figured the support group would be terrible. I would like to attend though.

Also the 28 lbs is counting my pre-op I'm new to all of this so I know what I'm doing. I was 323 at beginning weight then lost 23 gained 10 from surgery then lost that 10 again and 6 more so BW-323 NOW-294. So only 16 in 10 days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
