@@skyjones - great idea that way you are prepping just in case they offer you a date a lot earlier than the norm for prepping. I had the opportunity and was thankful I had started doing the diet - I was pretty much 90% on it when I got the approval letter on April 3rd. I ended up not taking the earlier date, but it was nice to have the option!

Me to! I had my initial appointment last week and don't have a date yet but feel I want to do everything I can to make the operation easier and improve my recovery rate.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

My NUT gave me great advice and suggested I start small by just changing habits you will have to take on later. For example, stop drinking 30 minutes before , during and 30 minutes after eating. Do that for a couple of weeks and then add a new one like stopping carbonation or getting in 64 of of Water or logging your food so you can track nutrients, etc. All the while aiming for some higher Protein lower carb food choices. But don't make it like another diet or it just can become another failed diet and the cycle that got us all here in the first place. Good luck! Welcome to the journey!

@@Soodoo @skyjones - make sure your insurance won't back off if you lose too much. Mine was ok because I had a comorbidity (BP). Just to be safe I found out how much I could lose without THAT stopping the surgery, keeping my BMI at least at 40. I was actually about 6lbs over that on day of surgery, with a little wiggle room.

Like @@Daisee68 said add changes like the 30/30 and stopping the carbonated drinks. Caffeine is better removed if done gradually as well.

I am having surgery on 23/07 and started preparing myself about 6 weeks ago. As @@Daisee68 said, just start slow and change a few things, one by one, over the weeks. For me, that kept me focused and wasn't as full on as doing everything at once.

Best of luck with your surgery date!

Kate

I think you're doing a smart thing. Like others have said, if you can start making some changes now, post-op it won't seem so difficult.

I wish I would have practiced the no drinking with meals thing ahead of time. I am finding it so difficult now, because I'm used to drinking 1-2 glasses of Water with my dinner. Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
