I'm a sushi lover, I could eat sushi every day. Just the California rolls tho. I'm two weeks out and just starting soft foods, no matter what I put in my mouth I chew it to the max so it goes down gently. Tried sushi tonight with no rice and I got full fast but I'm just wondering if that's an ok thing to eat. It just has crab meat, avocado, and thin strips of cucumber wrapped in seaweed. Usually rolled in rice but I had them leave the rice off. Thoughts?? Anyone else try it??

I too LOVE Sushi and I almost didn't have the surgery when someone said I'd never eat it again. (BTW-not true.)

At 5 months I tried sushi (very little rice) but I was very slow to start solid foods post-op. Two weeks seems early to me but suggest you check with your Doc.

In my view, and how I looked at it; testing my new pouch with anything that wasn't on the suggested food plan was playing with fire. I had read about too many who tired some food too soon and ended up in the hospital with a leak or worse. Just not worth it to me. I used that healing time to develop some good eating habits and so far it's paid off.

But I totally get your love for Sushi.

FYI-most of my cravings are gone at 6 months post-op and luckily even Sushi doesn't call to me much anymore. Good food-like high quality meat, veggies and fruit just look amazing to me. Trying to savor every bite. (Never thought that would happen!)

It sat very well! I was surprised! But I chewed it veryyyy good. I can't wait til I don't crave bad foods anymore. Atleast sushi is low in carbs and sugar and all that bad stuff. It was, however, difficult to watch my hubby enjoy egg rolls.

I also like sushi, although my sleeve hates it. As long as you are chewing it well and eating slowly it's totally ok to eat it. I would avoid the tempura stuff for awhile since sometimes that has hard bits, but the regular rice and fish is fine. It's a great source of Protein.

I agree that two weeks out seems awfully early to try it. At 2 weeks I was on full liquids. At three weeks was soft foods. Please be careful introducing new foods and follow your surgeon/NUTs program.

I also like sushi, but the seaweed gets me every time... Same with apple or other skin like texture. Oh the things we learn as life goes on

One of the first things I asked my nutritionist was if I'd still be allowed to have sushi. She said yes but to wait until after I was back on real foods just to be careful. However I was talking sashimi and a small cup of miso. California rolls are mostly soft stuff so while I'd wait for soft foods if you're good on them and your nutritionist is reasonably okay with it I'd say go for it.

I love sushi also and that was the only thing I thought I might miss if I could never eat it again. At 5 weeks out I did try sushi with my husband. It went down fine after being sure everything was well chewed. I lean more towards traditional sushi with eel, tuna, sea urchin eggs, etc, so I can't imagine a California roll giving you any problems. I was more than satisfied after eating two pieces, but I stayed away from the wasabi and chewed a few pieces of ginger which worked well.

Egg drop Soup is a good source of Protein if you like that, too, and goes down easily.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
