I am 3 1/2 months post op and have lost 50 pounds. I have started socializing with people that have not seen me since before surgery and do not know about the surgery. Literally, not one person has commented at all. Not even a you look good. I didn't do surgery to get compliments, but now after working so hard, I just wish someone would notice. Anyone else experience this?

Yes !!! Omg yes ! I'm newly sleeved so I've only lost 25 pounds so far. But I can really notice the difference but when I saw my supervisor for my part time job ( I haven't been there for a month) she actually asked me " what happened you look chunky" I literally wanted to cry. So I deff know the feeling. When I get to 50 pounds if anybody says I look chunky o might just snap

What kind of supervisor makes a comment like that under any circumstances?! Rude beyond belief! Depending on where you start weight-wise will depend on how soon others notice. 50 pounds from a person over 250 is harder to discern than off a person around 200. Most people are more interested in what is going on in their own personal lives than what is going on in ours. Try to understand that they are just preoccupied with their own stuff!

I was always so up and down with my weight, and people were so used to seeing me in various stages of weight loss and gain, only just recently am I getting the constant comments about my weight loss. And I'm almost to goal!

It was really discouraging at times seeing someone you hadn't seen in a while, and them not noticing. Happened to me all the time.

Like Shustar said, nobody is thinking about you.

Like you, they are thinking about themselves.

If they didn't see you prior to surgery, how would they know you lost weight?

I just had surgery. I know a ton of folks who have had it for various length of time.

I would actually hear people in our social circles talk about not acknowledging peoples' weight loss because they took the "easy way out."

There are some catty people in this world. Hell, there are even a few here on this site.

You are enough. Their validation isn't necessary. You did it for you. As my grandma used to say, "F them."

I've lost substantial amounts of weight twice before. There was usually a tipping point where suddenly everyone notices and you are bombarded with compliments. You never know - your tipping point could be tomorrow.

Well just bring it up at opportune times like , when someone says "hello" you say yeah just lost 50 lbs, or when they ask you how your doing "oh great just lost 50lbs!" Or when they say bye, "yeah just going to lose more of the 50lbs I've lost. I bet they will notice then!!! Ha!!! No for real maybe not with strangers because that may seem a little "weird" for some people but feel completely free to torture your family with it! I do, works for me. Trust me they notice ;)

Also just a thought but you said they haven't seen you in a bit. They may be afraid of asking and being wrong about you losing weight. The compliments will come...and soon I am sure!

You laugh, but I actually did that with a pretty good friend I hadn't seen for a while. I said "Can't you tell I've lost like 50 pounds???"

They were like "No, not really...I think you look great, though!"

WTH?? Seriously, it took me losing SEVENTY POUNDS before people started to notice! Really strange.....

1) I have heard 60 pounds seems to be a magic number for people to start noticing. As someone else said, everyone's tipping point is different, so tomorrow could be your day.

2) Some people are afraid to say anything as they don't know if it will offend you. Until someone knows you are ok hearing that, they may shy away. (To me telling someone they looked smaller was almost the same as saying they were HUGE in the first place. :D )

Don't get discouraged. Post before and after pics. We will tell you we notice. :)

I have had people notice but the second thing women say to me are my books are still huge. yep, they are.

The average comment is how much. I really don't care to share everything so I give them a general statement of a couple of pant sizes.

be ready it will happen:)

I was very open about my surgery with friends and co workers. A lot of people who did not know we're afraid to ask. People Are now getting used to seeing me. I am always glad to talk with those who have questions I am proud of my continued success

People will notice the more you see them and lose the pounds. Keep up the great work!

I am a little bit afraid of this myself. I will be seeing my old coworkers for the first time at the end of this month, it will be 3 months since they've seen me and I will be about 50 pounds lighter...

At first I started to worry, should I tell them I had surgery if they ask what I did?

But then even worse... what if they don't notice at all! :(

Also, how and where do you guys make those BMI timelines, surgery timelines, weight timelines at the bottom of your posts? I've been wanting to make them but can't figure out where to do it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
