What does it feel like?

What does it feel like when you eat something your stomach isn't ready for?

I'm 5 weeks out, and I'm following my plan from my surgeon. So far, everything has gone down fine. I'm feeling good restriction, and I haven't had any problems with anything I've eaten. I just want to know, as I'm introducing new foods, will I know if I eat something I'm not ready for?

I am a lucky one (or not lucky) I can eat almost anything. But yesterday I had a deep fried Mushroom and felt kinda sick. Not bad but kinda yuck.

I am like you, not having many issues with any foods. I did have an issue with oatmeal early on - made me very nauseated. I had it two weeks out on my soft foods, it was on my list but it just didn't work at on. Won't be trying it again for a while!

When my stomach doesn't like something, it feels like it is coming up my throat. I feel a little hot, my heart beats faster, and my chest gets red when I eat sugar, however when I eat oils, fats, cheeses, or anything else remotely unhealthy I just feel like the food is sitting right in the middle of my throat and slowly working its way back out my mouth. Then I puke and feel better. Also, sometimes with dense Protein my throat starts to slime...thick, gooey, clear slime that coats the food and makes you barf.

At 5 weeks out you're close to being healed, so soon you will be able to have a better idea of what works for you and what doesn't.

I was super excited to finally get some humus and after I ate it made me feel nauseas (did not throw up) and body ached like the flu. And last week in the soft/puréed stage I tried some red Beans that had not been puréed and within 30 mins I was on the bathroom every five minutes with diarrhea until everything I had consumed was gone. So for me each time the reaction was different. I am proceeding with caution

I agree with Ava. Sometimes eating too fast can cause the slime, sometimes eating too much causes the slime, and sometimes eating the wrong things (carbs, sugars) makes the slime. I cannot tolerate rice or bread at all. I had 2 tortilla chips at a Mexican restaurant and it ruined the whole meal. I think it's a learning process...I tried sushi, and body did not like rice, so now I order sashimi. Also, it helps that I don't let myself get to the point where I know I'm hungry...cause I will eat too fast and then feel like crap. I keep teriyaki turkey Jerky with me as a quick Protein when I get that way.

OMG, I'm so glad I read this post! I was thinking I was having bad allergies, or something. Couldn't figure out why sometimes I had that clear slime in the back of my throat. I guess I need to pay closer attention to when it happens and what I ate around that time. Because come to think of it...it's only been happening since I got off mushies 3wks ago.

Massive vomiting tends to happen for me for the first several days after I change food restrictions while I learn my limits and what "soft foods" means for me as opposed to the general guidelines. And I'm so glad I'm not the only one who gets the slime! I have no idea what that is but it's really weird.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
