Have you had bariatric surgery more than six months ago, and within the last ten years? Research for a Master’s degree at the University of Nottingham would appreciate your help!

I am carrying out a research project into barriers to weight loss upon completion of bariatric surgery. There is often little-to-no aftercare provided for bariatric surgery patients, and many people can find it difficult to adjust to their new strict diet and exercise regime without any external help, resulting in a lot of variability in patient outcomes.

By taking part in this short questionnaire, you will be contributing to an important field of research that can ultimately help bariatric surgery patients achieve their full potential in their weight loss journey.

Above and below is a link to an online survey, where we would like you to provide us with information about your experiences after your surgery. Please click the link and follow the instructions on screen. Please share as much information as you are comfortable with.

This study has full ethical clearance from the University of Nottingham, and please be assured that all of the information you provide will be completely anonymised.

Thank you for your help.

Postgraduate Student in MSc Health Psychology, the University of Nottingham.

I took the survey but am curious why you didn't ask about aftercare provided by surgeon? The premise is that many don't get adequate aftercare...but it was never asked.

I interpreted the premise to be that certain things can be barriers to success, i.e. aftercare, socioeconomic status, ethnicity.

Obviously I could be wrong but that was my reading of it.

I get it, but I failed with a lapband...so 10 years later I intentionally sought a surgical practice with strong aftercare afters I recognized that was one of many reasons I didn't do well with lapband. I had a Rockstar NUT my first year post op and it made a huge difference.

I tried to take the survey but it froze up at the 4th question. I went back and re-answered all the questions and it froze again at the 6th question. Sorry, not gonna go back for a 3rd time.

I'm with Cowgirl -- it seems the data requested allows you to correlate WLS outcomes with SES, but that's about all.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you even asked which kind of WLS respondents received.

I have no idea how you can content code the information solicited.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
