Does anyone else feel like me? That going through the pain/trouble/hassle of WLS was a necessary right of passage for personal growth and taking charger of your life?

The changes made to get my life back was the best part of my weight loss surgery. Rediscovering who I am and what I wanted out of life has been such a joy.

Put it this way...I want to be healthier...and I want to feel good EVERYDAY. I also have future career plans that being overweight would work so much against me ( as we all know the stereotype you get as an obese person in the workplace). So yes..a right of passage. Spot on!

Well said, I didn't think of that before surgery but it has become glaringly apparent after surgery. I am learning so many thing I was blind to before in my food induced haze. I am glad to finally be on this journey and getting healthier every day. Good luck to you all in your own personal journeys!

I didn't know it was spelled that way either. I didn't even know rite was a word. Now I'm excited for the next time I play scrabble!

And yes, I think with my food demons, surgery was the necessary step for me to be able to start getting over them. food is the vice used for deeper demons and I'm able to see them and deal with them now that I can't "eat" them, so I needed this to help me become healthier mentally and emotionally as well. What's really nice, and I'm trying to make sure my kids understand (and my husband always knew) is that I'm the same person and who you really are cannot be weighed on a physical scale. I wish I hadn't spent so much time ashamed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
