I'm new. Radiculitis and nerve damage-cause my disk to protrude

@@yasky33

hi there

welcome to the board and congrats on your first post :)

always room for one more ;)

the more the merrier :)

glad you made your decision to have WLS

you are doing a lot of research too

sounds like your in a good place :)

sorry for you back problems - whatever other health issues you might be dealing with

this surgery should help alleviate the pain, any other problems too :)

continue to read the boards

some questions might pertain to things you are thinking about

listen to all the good responses, experiences from people on the board

they have been there done that :)

info on your pre-op status etc

you ask your own questions too

what one person is told to do, might not apply to you

at the end of the day only listen to your doc/NUT (nutritionist)

they are YOUR medical team, here to "tell you what to do"

all NUTS are different

follow all the rules you will be learning for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life

you are a smart cookie ;)

you made the wise decision to have the sleeve (or whatever kind of weight loss surgery) :)

have fun jumping through all the hoops of insurance ;)

good luck

kathy

Welcome! Back problems were a big factor in my decision to have surgery. And less than a month out, my back pain has been significantly reduced already! Good luck in your journey!

@@yasky33, welcome! @@proudgrammy is spot on! You will get lots of advice if you ask but definitely listen to your surgeon and nutritionist. Your plan will be similar to some and totally different from others. Do your own plan as it is given to you. Do that and you will be successful! You will consistently lose weight and you will feel sooo much better! Good luck to you and speak up often!

What are the q&a for the pyscharist in getting approval

It varies greatly... some psychologists have you fill out a long questionnaire, while others just meet with you and chat. Mine had me fill out a couple short surveys, but mostly we just talked.

I am new also to this forum. I am in the beginning stages of this journey to getting the sleeve. I actually have the lap-band and the band is horrible. I am getting it taken out and getting the sleeve in same surgery. So excited! I just wish I would have done the sleeve from the start.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
