Question... In pain.

Recommended Posts

I am 19 days post op. Last night I blew my nose and felt a pop under my largest incision followed by pain. My incision is still sealed. I called my surgeon and he said it's probably muscle pain. He said take some pain meds, ice it, and if it starts to swell, bruise, or the pain gets worse to come in to the office next week. Well the pain is worse and i'm at work right now trying to push through it. My question is has this happened to anyone else and is this normal? Should I go to the emergency room or wait 3 more days and go see my surgeon? Again, my incisions are still sealed and there's no bruises or anything, but I am in some real pain. On a pain scale I'm 6/10.

Sorry...I think I would wait a few days. Do as your surgeon said..pain med, ice it. From time to time I had weird things happen and it was just part of the healing of surgery and a new stomach.

@@Rochellevsg trust your instincts! Your surgeon is going by what you told him not an examination so if you are in that much pain go get checked out to be safe! Just becaus you don't see anything on the outside it doesn't mean there's not something happening on the inside.

I agree with @@Elode - better safe than sorry. Go get checked out.

That's what doctors get the big money for....inconvenience. I would see him ftf asap or ER. I had issues with one of my incisions, always felt like it was ripping inside or something. I'm 3wks out and that spot still isn't closed (my fault for scab picking), but I use an abdominal binder to support my belly and that ripping feeling and it does wonders.

Exact same thing happened to me with a sneeze. Went to surgeon and he said it was just a tiny adhesion that was tight and the sneeze loosened it. Not a big deal in the healing spectrum, but hurt for two days.

Well I went ahead and went to the ER after I got off work. They gave me morphine for pain. They did a cat scan and blood work. They said my cat scan looked fine. They contacted my surgeon and I'll be going to see him Tuesday. Glad I went and everything is ok.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
