Hello,

I have read about how we loose hair and how this is normal and we can't do anything about it along with making sure that we are taking the proper amount of Protein and Vitamins.

What I haven't seen is the little details, like what Shampoo do you use to improve your hair? Do you wash your hair less or more? What products do you use for your hair? A special brush? Etc...

Guess I am just going crazy as I was sleeved on 3/2 and my Doc said it was too early to start loosing my hair. My blood work came out perfect. Today I was outside in the sun (sky was cloudy) and I felt my scalp hot when I got home I looked in the mirror and realized that I am getting bald at the top of my head. I guess I am just one of the many that loose more than others ???

The standard is that the hair loss will last for about six months. Just know this is temporary.

Here are a few products I have used

If you feel like your hair is getting overly thin and your scalp is too exposed, you might want to try some fill in hair Fiber powders such as Nanogen or Toppik. They work really well. I used them before surgery because I already had bad Hair loss just due to luck/genetics. My tip with respect to them -- buy a couple of shades: the one you think matches your hair, and one lighter. I've found that the lighter shade usually works better.

They are really easy to use -- I am clueless with respect to both hair styling and makeup and I had no problem with them.

If you do go with the fibers, basically all you need is the canister of fibers, not the special application tools and holding sprays and what have you they also sell. Just use any light or medium hold hair spray after applying the fibers and they hold just fine.

You may also want to cut your hair shorter, in layers with a side part. This helps camouflage hair loss. Good luck!

I lost hair for well over 6 months, and went from thin hair that was pretty easy to style and looked pretty good to hair that was so thin my scalp showed almost all over. It was very hard to camouflage. It took an increase in calories and over a year to grow back, but its about there.

I went to a dermatologist and got steroid injections in my head, which did help to stop the excessive loss, and also helped stimulate some regrowth. I had a topical solution, too because my scalp was irritated. I also used the Bosley fibers, which helped some, but at the worst, there was just no hiding the balding. I still use them (just a little) in the part to add the illusion of fullness, and they work great now. I also recommend going a shade lighter than your hair.

The dermatologist sold me a SUPER expensive Shampoo, Vitamins, and stimulating spray system from Glytone. It was over $200, but it also seemed to help. Now I use Keranique shampoo. You can also use Nyoxin, and Bosley also makes a product for thinning hair. You can get the Glytone products from a dermatologist, but I did find it a little cheaper online. I got the other stuff at Ulta.

I did everything right. I got my Protein in every day. I drank my Water. I took Biotin. I firmly believe if you are going to lose hair, nothing will stop it after WLS. I also believe good nutrition and hair care does make a difference in regrowth, though.

Thank you to all of you for this feedback and support. Greatly appreciate all these tips. Gives me hope after crying for several hours last night thinking that there was nothing that I could do to make this issue go away or at least make it look better. 2 months down 4 to go (hopefully) but at least I got back up ideas now. Thanks!!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
