Hi,

Wondering why all of a sudden getting hiccups while eating and then have to vomit? Had port for years; lost 45 pounds, but then gained it back. Went to Dr and she said band didn't move, but did put some fill in. Stopped drinking liquids with my meal, but it doesn't help.

Hiccups for me is the last sign that if I eat anything more, I will get stuck, vomit, whatever....(it's not really vomiting)

And I cannot drink with my meals at all.

Your Dr. added a fill? That tells me your band is fine, so it must be the foods you are eating, or the way you're eating....for me it was both. Had to change the way I ate, slowly, chew well, and take small bites.....and had to change the foods I ate. There are some categories of foods I will never eat again.

Me, too, on the hiccups -- a sign that I've reverted to old behaviors. I was a very fast eater and had to learn how to s-l-o-w down.

Just yesterday I had half of a small avocado then went back for the other half immediately. I knew better but my old piggy self wanted that avocado. Sure enough I had to blap it up in the sink. Slippery foods can be problematic for me and I realized that something like plain avocado is just another slider. I try to choose foods that require chewing as that's how the brain gets the signal for satiety. Next time I will chop the avocado up with a few nuts or other dense foods that require chewing -- and chewing slowly is key.

Good for you getting back to the surgeon. That follow up is so important -- fill or no fill or even an occasional unfill in my case -- it's important to keep in close touch with our medical professionals in order to stay on track.

It may sound strange but rubbing you forehead works on hiccups, it is even medical

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
