SeahawksFan 444 Posted July 10, 2015 I made it 10.5 Miles today & ran 2 of my fastest miles. I have never ran that far in my entire life. I signed up for my first half marathon on Labor Day. If any one has any tips I'd love it. My foam roller is my new BFF ~LA

SeahawksFan 444 Posted July 11, 2015 Hey Prbaby28 -Welcome and Congrats. My husband is a fire fighter/EMT. It's amazing to me how everyone's journey is so different. I have to say I don't have any issues with food. My sleeve isn't bothered and mine just get's a little queasy if I eat to much sweets and then I eat some Protein and I am fine. I have only thrown up once. But I will say be careful when you go back to work and makes sure you drink your liquids. On my first day back I felt wonderful and thought I was Wonder Woman....I ended up in the ER that night dehydrated. I was just so busy getting everything done I didn't pay attention. I eat every 3 hours. Here's an example of what I eat. I used yesterday as an example I do eat oatmeal almost everyday. I didn't in the begging but found I got backed up and my nutritionist is fine with it as I still continued to lose. I also don' log or measure my food. I know a lot of people do and are successful so that's up to you. Again my nutritionist was ok with out me doing it. I get up at 5 am and have coffee with Protein in it. I use GENEPRO . I think I started on coffee at 8 weeks. Workout 7 am Protein shake w/blueberries and strawberries (Either vanilla Premier Protein or Shakeology ) 9:30 oatmeal add GENEPRO usually only a half scoop 12:30 Salmon and coleslaw 3:30 1/2 apple with almond butter 6:30 pulled pork with cucumber slices Good luck- LA
Para-thighs Lost 125 Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) Congratulations! I ran to the store from my car in the parking lot...first time I've actually ran in over 20 years! What could I do, it was raining. I have to confess...run was a bit of a stretch...actually it was more of a jog. That said, I was tickled pink that I could do that much! Not being a smart a**. Some folks can run marathons, and some can "jog" a half block. It's wonderful that we all can experience those moments of victory. Large and small. Losing this weight has been awesome. Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Edited July 11, 2015 by Para-thighs Lost
LisaPunkinHead 187 Posted July 11, 2015 Great job!! I have done 2 half marathons. You are right where you need to be training-wise. Every two weeks, add a mile to your weekly long run. Your last long run should be TWO weeks before your half. Back off training for about five days before the half -- do one or two easy runs and then maybe a walk a day or two before. The concept of carb loading doesn't apply to a half marathon, but still eat well the day before (no junk and nothing new). Keep hydrated. If it's hot, there are tablets you can put in your Water that will add electrolytes. Keep your pace even on race day -- don't start out too fast. Stay at a slow pace, even if everyone else is passing you up. You need to conserve that energy for the whole thing!! And no putting yourself down about "jogging" versus "running." It's all the same thing. You are a runner!!!
laguerr13 993 Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) I still wish I could run, unfortunately my sleeve was for weight and not my damaged knees, I make up for it at the gym, I used to like the way bodybuilders looked so I loved to lift, now people are already seeing a difference and my muscle is coming back, it feels so great and it make me wanna keep going, I went back to the gym 1week after surgery on June 10th, I was curling 20lbs, yesterday I curled 50lbs, my PB 15yrs ago was 95lbs, so my goal now is at least 80lbs, still I wish I could do a 5k with my friends, oh well knee surgery may be next......... prbaby28 26 Posted July 11, 2015 @@SeahawksFan I can't tolerate room temperature liquids so it's going to be a challenge to keep hydrated I'm going just freeze my drinks and hope for the best lol. I was able to tolerate some things a week ago that I can't now but I guess my body is changing and I really haven't thrown up except for one time it's more my stomach just grumbling and sometimes I just feel the food hit my stomach but I will follow your advice..thank you so very much and thank your husband for what he does our profession is very underpaid and under appreciate lol
