Anyone else having a lot of hiccups?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve surgery on Tuesday, June 30th, and ever since then, I've been getting bad cases of the hiccups 3-4 times per day. Has anyone else had this experience? Was there anything you did to help alleviate them?

Hope everyone's having a wonderful day! Thanks for your input!

bad cases of the hiccups

@@meggriffin12

many, many people have hiccups for awhile PO (or they sneeze)

when i used to get the hiccups, i was approaching being full, or was already full

its a good guideline at the beginning

but later (still), i just stop when i knew i had completed my small "ration" so i wouldn't overdue eating

my doc told me pre-op

"eat til you are full, but stop 2 bites earlier" ;)

good luck on your journey :)

Totally normal, for most folks it means they are at or near capacity.

Agree with above posters. It really can be a great indicator of when to "stop" for a lot of us.

It also helps to be mindful of chewing really well (the 30 times per bite thing) and eating overall very slowly to prevent hiccups.

Even at 4 years out, I find that if I don't pay enough attention to pacing my eating at my meals, I very predictably end up with the hiccups.

I only get the hiccups when I am full. I didn't even starting getting them until I was about 4 months out.

Thanks so much everyone! That's really good information! I will keep that in mind when I'm eating/drinking. :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
