How long for insurance approval?

Recommended Posts

I finished all the requirements to have my surgery submitted for approval yesterday! Yay! My question is purely for my entertainment unless someone else has the exact insurance as I do. (NC BCBS) How long did you have to wait for approval once it went to insurance?

Who submitted for you? My surgeon's office has a surgery coordinator whose whole job is gathering and submitting the paperwork. She has been awesome.

I guarantee she call you when they get approval. If it is stressing you then call her or shoot an email her way the end of the week? I expect I'll email mine if I don't hear some thing inside of two business weeks.

Yeah we are! I know people who have had to jump through hoops! When I went to the initial seminar, I was asked what my insurance was. When I said I was a state employee and BCBS, the lady was like- finally, an easy one! Fill this out!

Teenahh... how long after approval did you have surgery?

I know i was worried it was going to take forever to get approved. From the day I got the phone call I was approved to my surgery date - one month. I wanted it ASAP.

Also they are fast because my doctors office had me approved for the sleeve in 2 days and it was supposed to be for the bypass and it still only took 2 days for the approval again.

I was approved in the end of May and I had my surgery june 30th.

Soo excited for you, how long has it been ?

I sat on the fence about whether or not to do the surgery for a couple years. I finally did the seminar in the fall but didn't start the process til the spring. I'm a teacher so I was trying to time it so the surgery could be done in the summer but I'm not sure I got it all done in time. I can't imagine doing the pre-op diet and getting ready to back to school!

The pre op diet is 2 weeks before your surgery date. And you need a solid 2-3 weeks to recover after surgery. This Tuesday will be 2 weeks and I feel almost normal.

Just tell your doctors office you need it ASAP - if that's what you want. Not sure when school starts for you though.

I would head back to work in about 7 weeks time... but the first week of that would be without kids. The doctors office knows that I'm hoping to do it in july/ early august. One of my friends had bypass on August 1 of last summer and she didn't miss any work.

Have you had your surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
