1 week post op and starving

Recommended Posts

For the fourth tomorrow, I'm planning to take a small can of baked Beans and pureeing it with a fat free hot dog and some Tomato juice and ketchup and BBQ Sauce. It'll be my holiday treat.

MMMMM -- that sounds great. (pretty sad when i think a FF hotdog & baked Beans pureed together sounds good......LOL)

Are you on full liquid stage or pureed stage?

Thanks!

Full liquid, that's why I'm pureeing everything and then making it into a Soup with broth or juice or FF milk.

My nut said at this point I can be on pureed foods, but I'm trying to go very slow. I don't want to do ANYTHING to disrupt the healing of this band.

She did give me a list of things I can flavor my food with and salsa is one of them, which amazes me since salsa has chunks in it. So I was cautious and put it in the blender, too.

I can flavor things with just about anything, catsup, mustard and BBQ Sauce are all allowed (by my list) on full liquid as well.

I'm amazed that full liquids includes runny oatmeal and grits, too. Wow! But I again am pureeing and souping those up, too. I really am trying to be good.

Though I am already planning what my first real food will be. I think I'll have some crab legs before I get filled for the first time.

My doc said to day 5 liquids only (not just clear...just liquid)...day 5-10 anything pureed is okay...as long as you can suck it through a straw. Heck, give me a big enough straw and I'm eating a WHOPPER!! hahahaha

Chele,

I want that same straw!! I am almost done with 2 of my 4 weeks of liquids. Unless when i go to the doc next week I can talk him into moving me onto soft/pureed.

The 4th picnic was hard. There i am with my cream Soup watching everyone else eat -- but it was satisfying to know that i did it. Plus, that morning, i went into my closet and I was able to wear a shirt that I hadn't been able to wear in over a year. That was super sweet. Made creamy chicken soup taste good.

Campbell's Soup at Hand is a good product (avoid the ones with tiny Pasta pieces, though), Creamy chicken, Cream of Broccoli, Creamy Tomato, Classic Tomato, Blended Vegetable Medley, Vegetable Beef, Clam Chowder, Creamy Potato are just a few of the options. Very few chunks.

Imagine brand Soups are also good as are the Gold Label boxed Campbell's soups.

Oh yeah. they are good. I love the creamy chicken. I went to the dollar store today and bought all they had. Okay, that was only 8 -- but I have a hard time finding them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
