Can you take pills after VSG?

Recommended Posts

I take several pills for blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. Will I be able to take those after surgery or do I need to find out if they can be crushed?

Thanks! I take 9 pills every night so I may be up for an hour just taking them slowly! LOL It would be good if my doc took me off some after surgery.

I had to break my BP in half because it was too much for me, BP was too low, and I am hoping to be completely off them soon. I was told anything bigger than a regular M&M, esp now, would be too big.

They gave a me my HRT pill in the hospital after surgery. And I took my regular pills normally when I got home, no crushing. That is until a few weeks later when I was taken off of everything ;) Yay!

We have very similar stats! You'll be there in no time! I was on the slower side, so you may get there faster than I did ;)

We are very similar! I hope I'm there quickly! I'm tired of jeans cutting into my middle. :)

I have read that my metabolism is probably going to slow down my loss because I was banded before. I hope not!

Yeah, I hear that you revisions are a little slower. But so what? As long as you get there and enjoy the journey, that's all that matters! Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi, I take even more than that and my surgeon had me change everything over to liquid or chewable, well, turns out I did not need it, I was taking a few of my really need meds the evening of my surgery...now, everyone is different so if your surgeon wants you to switch, do it! better safe than sorry....I can take my handful now, just get heartburn ever so often :) BTW, I wasn;t told that I need to change them until a week prior to surgery and had to scuttle...so ask your surgeon asap to give yourself time to get it all ready...some insurances will require preauth and that can take time......good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
