I'm looking at a surgery date for August. I just got to thinking about something. Do you have to have a catheter put in for surgery? I know strange question but I've never had any surgery or been in the hospital before.

I was sleeved on May 26th. I was concerned about having a catheter but was relieved when they gave it to me. It was done while I was already under. I was thankful that I did not have to get up evey hour that first night to use the restroom,. Mine's was taken out the next day. I stayed in the hospital for two days.

I've had several catheters. It's not a big deal. It hurts but only for a moment. It will be quick. Hang in there!

I had one put in before surgery while I was under anesthesia. Took it out in recovery. I had trouble "making pee" after I got into my room, so they put in one to quickly drain my bladder. They called it going "in and out". Still couldn't make pee, so they put one in late in the day (surgery day) and it came out the next morning. Finally turned on the shower and the sound of the Water created pee. Yippee! Then I was released.

It's no big deal, no reason to worry. It was my first time hospitalized also

I was not to drink anything after midnight. Then made to pee right before going into the OR. No catheter for me. Woke up from anesthesia and went pee after surgery. Every doc is different.

Unless they put it in and took it out again while I was under and I was none the wiser, I didn't have a catheter.

Not a silly question..I was like you, never been in the hospital in my entire life before my surgery in Dec'14. I had one. They put it in while I was under and the took it out the next day. It was no big deal. Actually it was kind of nice not having to get up in the middle of the night. Best of Luck with your journey. Best thing I ever did was to get the sleeve.

You don't even really know it's there :)

Just feels funny coming out.

If they do use one they typically put it in once you are out and remove it before you wake up. I doubt you'll know you had one.

I had a catheter. It was put in while I was under. Having it taken out the next day was quick and painless. The worst part was having a bag of pee clipped to my iv stand while I was out walking the halls.

I thought I didn't have one either. The other day I was reading my op notes. Apparently they put it in while I was out & removed it before I woke up.

I talked to my surgical team and they did not use a catheter. As a medical professional I can tell that catheters should not routinely be used for this procedure unless there is a clear medical reason. It increases your risk of infection.

I didn't have one. Though after surgery they told me I needed to pee a certain amount or they would need to give me one. Thankfully peeing was not a problem! They also made me go right before they started surgery.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
