July 6th 2015 (or close) sleevers...how are we doing?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on July 7. I am fine if I stick to Protein drinks, mousse, Water and other liquid type foods. I tried scrambled egg whites last week and again yesterday. Both times, I ended up throwing up. Don't know if I just can't take eggs or just not ready for them yet. I can go to bed okay, but around 3 or 4 I wake up with belching, reflux and have to move to a recliner. The results of the eggs make me hesitant to try a different regular food.

Are you still on any medication?

I am taking things very slow and I feel that's okay. I would rather slowly introduce foods and figure out what I can have each stage than rush for the sake of it. I am also sure that what our stomach doesn't like now or tolerate now, might be okay 6 months from now. I don't find it frustrating seeing people post here about the meals they are having at week 4. We are all different and as long as you are getting Protein and fluids in then it's all good. However it might be an idea to speak to your GP or NUT in case they can suggest medication which might help or other foods you might tolerate.

Good Luck!! :D

I have been sick the last two weeks with nausea and vomiting. I had to get liquid reglan and dissolving zofran to help. Doing a bit better but still mainly on liquids though I have had some cottage cheese and cream of wheat. Nowhere near Protein levels I need or calories. If it weren't for drinking milk I wouldn't be above 200 a day. Looking forward to feeling better and getting back on track. Down 35 lbs since surgery

So I ran into about a week long stall but weighed today and was 2 lbs down. Down 37 total since pre op liquid diet. I haven't had any problems to date (knock on wood) and I've been running about 3 times a week! Feeling great!

What is a hernia repair and how is it done? I got sleeved august 7th and have this feeling like something is slipping out from one of my incisions . It feels weird idk what it could be but I'm reading all of these hernia repairs and I'm kinda starting to think it could be it?

Hernia is when your stomach lining goes up into your esophagus. Causes reflux.

I ended up in the hospital on Tuesday with colitis. Definition, constipated beyond belief. Worst two days ever. Now I am afraid to eat and have gone back to softer foods. I have been especially afraid to start the Protein Shakes again, so I have been having Isopure clear drinks. What foods are others eating at 5-6 weeks out?

Sorry to hear you are having troubles! I'm eating tuna, tilapia, other soft meats, eggs, mashed potatoes, saltines (though not every day and not a lot), cheese... And the damn Protein Shakes still. I'm so over shakes. I'm still not going #2 on a regular basis and when I do I have a mini celebration lol!

@@DojiGirl I am eating toasted bread, turkey and chicken lunch meat, cheese under 5g of fat, soft foods, soft fruits, soft cooked veggies, iceberg lettuce, baked potatoes, crackers, fish, and next week can start having ground beef and ham. Does your nutritionist have a plan for progression on what kinds of foods to reintroduce you can have? I have a new list every week to follow.

@@hopalopa67 My NUT gave me a short list of foods that would be appropriate right now. I just had no idea that my tastes and tolerances would change so much. I'm really trying to eat a variety of things, because I easily fall into the habit of eating the same thing over and over.

One thing that I think was a problem was I started ground beef at the point I was told I could, but I wasn't ready for it! I guess it just depends NUT to NUT, my friend who had this surgery a year ago, was on soft foods for 8 weeks!

Thanks for the menu ideas hopalopa67 and GirlOnFire!!!

Ok.... My hair is falling out. I figured it would happen but hoped that I would be one of the lucky ones. I have very thick hair so I'm only mildly concerned. Anybody else?

Starting to lose some as well, but my hair is already very, very thin, so it's a little disheartening.

I'm 71 lbs down, but have developed a stricture and can't get dilation/treatment until January. I miss how much I could eat 1-2 months after surgery, as now I'm down to almost nothing. Even nibbling all day, I can't break 500 calories. Ugh. Thankfully, I have only vomited twice, mainly I just eat two bites of soft food or a little more in liquid, and I'm done.

Besides eating low calories how do u feel?

I wouldn't call it outright pain, but I feel real discomfort much of the time. I try to nibble all day to avoid a stomach ache, and much of the time I feel frustrated that most foods won't go down. I get nauseous thinking about food, I gag a lot, and because I have to drink very slowly, I end up dehydrated or thirsty most of the time. That "30 minutes before eating/drinking" isn't true for me. Sometimes I need to wait hours between.

I'm gonna try to get B12 and Vitamin injections to keep me from getting ill, because I throw up my chewable Vitamins. pills absolutely will not stay down no matter how they are crushed (it's something I did before surgery too, just a sensitive tummy).

It just blows my mind. I'm young, healthy, no co-morbidities, never get sick, I never dreamed I would be having such a difficult time with this surgery.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
