Recommended Posts

Officially 1 month post op and my urine..umm..stinks..smells SUPER STRONG..ive also noted that after going to the bathroom, I will have some leakage_(if you know what I mean)_and I have to change undergarments because of it. Never happened before.whats happening,?? and when will it stop? Cant live my life smelling like an alley...

P.s im.up to about 40 ounces of Water a day and prior to having surgery, if I only drank 8oz in a day, my urine NEVER smelled this way...

I wouldn't think it would be that bad if your drinking 40 oz, you obviously need more BUT it could be from Vitamins if your taking any or medications?

Sounds like ketosis, at least the smell part. idk about the leaking.

I agree with Elode... Meds and not enough Water. Urine should be pale yellow to clear if you're hydrated enough. Drink all day long!!

Could it be a UTI? Some woman don't know they have one until it's really bad. I don't get the stereotypical spasms and pain anymore-I can tell from the smell! Check with your PCP.

I think it's likely part from column A, part from column B. Part ketosis, part a side effect of the Vitamins and partly not getting enough Water. I try to go beyond my 64 of Fluid. I just aim for drinking until my urine is pale. For some reason post WLS it take a lot more water to get to that point than it did pre WLS.

I had that problem before surgery and it was a UTI. Antibiotics cleared it up right away.

I don't know about the leaking, but I had the smell issue - my surgeon said it was ketones because our bodies are shedding weight so fast it choses every avenue to do it. Sweat, breath, pee, and everything else. No matter how much Water I drank my pee was so dark, so I'd asked him about it. I'd definitely have yourself checked for a UTI though, the leaking sounds serious.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
