Hi Everybody! I am about half way through my WL journey and REALLY struggling with CARBS! I was a definite carb addict when I put all my weight on but, have had it under control for a while. I now see some old habits creeping back that I know will derail my WLS. I told on myself to my doctor yesterday and told her that its almost as if I have no clue how I got back here! Its like one day I said OK to a bite of potato and now...its "oh, ok ..a few pretzels or yeah sure..a bite of bread! I'm so disappointed in myself for doing this! Especially since we all know that the only way out is carb detox again! I just wanted to put this out there to all of you and see what your thoughts are and how you have dealt with this. I know this will be an ongoing issue for me but, I have to shut it down now or I will never meet goal! Thanks for hearing my confession guys!

Im right there with you. I have my surgery next week and I have cut all carbs or I will just slide slowly back to this weight. you can have quinoa, but otherwise Id stay away.

Im sorry you are struggling with it (and we all know how awesome carbs are) but I believe you can do it and wish you the best of luck.

I am 5 months post-op and I guess I am lucky in a way because I can't eat anything overly sweet or else I get sick. I tried eating Dairy Queen one night and it made me so sick. My biggest carb splurge is crackers , popcorn, and tortilla chips. My advice to you would be to always eat your Protein first. Then vegetables and if you have room left eat your carbs. I know it is hard to avoid the foods you love. You can do it! You just have to keep reminding yourself why you went through the WLS process in the first place. Also I look at old pictures of myself before I lost weight and it really motivates me to eat better and get out and exercise more! Good luck!

Thanks Maria & KB,

I was never a sweets person really but, the rice, Pasta, bread...those are killing me! So far, my weight loss hasn't suffered but we all know it will if I don't knock it off. Nothing is worse than going in for your check up and not having a good number and knowing its your own fault because you weren't all in that month! Also, I just had surgery for a bowl obstruction (emergency). So, I haven't been allowed to work out and these two things are a bad WL combo!

food addiction is a real thing. Your carb is someone's cigarettes. They quit and go without them for awhile, then they smell a cigarette or take a drag from one, next thing you know they're buying a pack (Chandler Bing FTW). It's hard. When I do eat carbs such as bread or Pasta, I feel an urge to keep eating them. So now I just try to avoid them all together as much as I can because it's a slippery slope.

I agree with what @@MariaElena1983 said. Fill up on your Proteins first and then you won't have any room for carbs. I dunno about anybody else, but carb rich foods make me feel really really full in a bad way.

I just try to find replacements. Who knew a handful of grapes was as good as a chocolate bar. Nuts are a great replacement for chips. It's baby steps and telling myself I can't have something is easiest. Good luck to you, I know you can do it!!

Thanks Guys! I know I have to stop this crazy train now or it will just never stop. I need to remember that eating for me is emotional and I am not rational about things that fuel my addictive eating behavior. I think being open with my doctor and on here is a help. Keeping it secret so I can be alone with my disorder is the worst thing to do. Closet eating, sneaking and keeping secrets is how I got to almost 300lbs before surgery. I know I can turn it around, its just hard but, nothing worth having comes easy.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
