I had my revision surgery on 6/30 from band to RNY. I was banded in 2005. I lost 100 lbs and kept off about 85. Then started having reflux, ulcers, and gastritis. Through an EGD the doctor found the band was partially obstructed. Before band, I was 450lbs so I was no where near goal. Finally made the decision and found the right doctor for revision.

So here I am, 8 days post op. I feel so different this time! So motivated and following all instructions to a "t". Just looking for support to stay that way. I'm determined not to hide this time. Anxiety kept me from going groups last time or even looking for support. I still felt I was not "good" enough or didn't "fit."

Having a buddy (or several!) I think will really help!!! Would love to hear from someone!

Thank you! Congratulations to you too! I was so anxious during the pre op process. Waiting is hard and the diet made days go slower for me I think, especially when I had to do my two weeks of shakes. But worth it! How are you making out?

Hi! I'd love to be your buddy! It sounds like we are in a similar boat. I was also banded, was successful, and then had complications... My revision to RNY is next Monday, July 20 :)

I am curious to hear about how the surgery went for you? How does the healing compare to the recovery from band surgery?

Be well! I'm right behind you!

Still in the hoop jumping stage with insurance but hope to be sleeved end of December. But just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. We're all in the same boat with the same destination! Good luck! Buddy!

Awesome! Congratulations! To me, recovery has seemed so much easier this time in some ways, and harder in others. Maybe because I already knew what kind of pain to expect but there hasn't been a great deal of pain in my abdominal area where the actual surgery was performed- just soreness. But the most of my pain was in my lower right side that the doctor said was coming from my back. He said it was probably from the unforgiving hard operating table. That being said, I was in the hospital 5 days, but when I was banded I didn't even stay one night. To me it was so much better staying in the hospital those first few days. And maybe that's why my pain was so much less! I had a pain medicine in a pump I could administer every 10 minutes! Overall, recovery has not been as bad as I thought it would be. I'm pretty lucky though- I'm a teacher and am on summer break. If I get tired, I can take a nap and have been able to take it easy. Glad to be your buddy! How is your pre op going?

. I do know the feeling! I was so anxious in the last month! I kept worrying about everything that would keep me from having the surgery or of course, what may go wrong. Staying busy helped for sure. And reading that other people were feeling exactly like me! It is great to know you are not alone! Great to have you as a buddy!

will be thinking positive thoughts for you! It is so frustrating waiting on insurance. It feels like they are the judge and jury of your wellbeing. And then it's very unceremonious when they approve you. Like, "yeah... You're approved. K... Next." Definitely sending you positive vibes!

Good morning! 6/30 was my bypass date, too.

I'm feeling great and so ready to move onto the next phase of the nutrition.

I'm very easy to tire. I just vacuumed part of the dining room and I'm absolutely whupped (as my dad would say). Very weak and have a hard time concentrating.

Leftovers from the anesthesia and surgery and lack of calories and whatever.

But everything's going according to plan.

How are you today? Still feeling good?

HappyValleyHappy- I know what you mean! My fiancé took me to run errands yesterday (still not cleared for driving) and I went to two stores and then fell asleep in the car! Mornings are best for me, as far as energy goes. I'm feeling good today, except for some minor back discomfort from the way I'm having to sleep. I am frustrated that I am not seeing the scale budge much. Maybe I'm being a little impatient! Trying to stay positive!

Thanks, that's really helpful information. I am not sure how long my stay will be, but certainly longer than when I was banded. I was in and out in 8 hours, which seemed a little extreme.

My pre-op is kind of no big deal, because I thankfully haven't gained much weight back from when I was banded, so I was actually advised to put weight ON so that insurance would approve the revision. How awful is that? The medical system in this country really is not looking out for our overall health (but I can rant on that another time...).

Happy summer vacation! I was an elementary teacher for 15 years, but now I am working for an educational non-profit. I sure do miss those summers!

Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
