I have a problem. I always eat one bite too much and end up in excruciating pain. It doesn't matter if I measure everything out or not. Like I can't even eat 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. Am I alone in this? I need some pointers because I can't keep doing this to myself. 2 weeks post op as of today and on soft foods per doc's orders.

You are still pretty early in the process. Try eating smaller amounts every 2-3 hours and see if that helps. I am 9 weeks out and still eat several times a day. Mostly Protein still.

It does get better. If it continues to be bothersome, I would go back to the clear liquid to full liquids stage for a few days. For me, it seemed like the pain got better overnight. 2 months out and I still get pain if I overeat. Hang in there.

If you are measuring things out, it should be relatively easy to fix. Say you eat 1/4 cup (measured out) cottage cheese, and the last bite is too much. The next time, measure out 3 tablespoonfuls of cottage cheese and eat that -- just keep track of how much was "too much" and make sure you measure out at least 20% less the next time, and stick to eating that amount of that food for the foreseeable future.

If you are really in the early weeks, you just can't trust your tummy to tell you when to stop. It takes about 6 weeks or so for nerves to heal etc. I think the suggestions you have received are very good ones... eat 2 bites less than you think you need and see how that goes...

Longer term, this is tough to get rid of the idea of seeking "full". I was told to seek satiation. Well, my whole life I ahven't felt "satisfied" unless I was full, so I had to adopt a "no longer hungry" criteria. Even that was always hard to know... but it is alot less food then you might think. I know it is tempting to think you are malnourished or not getting enough, but truth is that as long as you are meeting hydration and Protein goals, and take your Vitamins you are FINE.

Hang in there, it gets easier!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
