Help make my decision

Recommended Posts

I've know about the lapband for quite awhile but just a few days ago I was able to talk to someone who actually had the surgery...a doctor no less. She was just banded 3 weeks ago and can't say enough good about it and her doctor. I need to lose 100+ pounds. I have several issues interfering with weight loss and now some medical issues are beginning to surface. I'm in my late 50s, is it too late for me? :) I want to live to see my grandchildren's children! :) Any help :help::help:, advice...good and bad would be appreciated.

Well i see a number of people on here that are over 50 and seem to be doing well. My Mother was banded and she is 71. She is doing great. The surgury was fine and the days after were the same as everyone else. A little gas pain the next day or two but no big deal and she was up and walking around that night.

Hi Thread,

I like you am 50, I have a BMI of 38.5 and preexisting conditions of diabetesII and high blood pressure, not to forget family history of heart disease. I have gotten to the point where all of my paperwork has been sent to the weight loss program at the hospital and they will submit to my insurance UHC HMO. Has anyone had any experience with getting approval from them?

This is the best present you could give yourself and your family!

Keep positive!

Donna, ILlinois:)

I'm 58 and was banded in March. I haven't lost a lot but I AM LOSING! I was a lower BMI so I don't know if I'm losing slowly because of my age, my BMI, or both. Check out this thread for lots of great info: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/how-weight-loss-people-over-50-a-21117/

Good luck on your decision! Karen

I haven't made appt. with doctor yet. I'm still in the learning phase, trying to get the good, the bad and the ugly re banding. It is a drastic step to take, but when all else fails...and your health is beginning to fail too....

I love being banded. I am down 52 lbs this year without dieting. It is the best thing I have every done. I finally have the right restriction so the weight has started to come off again. Just remember that the lapband is a tool. You still have to put the work into it. My first year I didn't exercise very much so my weight loss wasn't as good as it could have been. In any case, I love my band. You will love yours too. Good luck.

Everybody is so positive, I am hearing such good things. I am just about at the point where I think I am ready to make an appt. with the doctor to begin the evaluation process. I don't think I will have any problem qualifying.

The surgeon/hospital I went to is a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, and I can't say enough about the quality of information, pre- and post-surgery care, and the overall program. They're very careful to make sure you know all the positives and negatives of the various kinds of bariatric surgery, and what kind works best for different kinds of eating habits, etc.

The Surgical Review Corporation (Surgical Review Corporation) has awarded the Center of Excellence title to 225 hospitals and 465 surgeons across the country - you can find one through their website.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
