I'm one month out and the last week or two I've been waking up at 3:30 or 4:30am. What gives? I'm exhausted. I'm not taking naps, no caffeine. Ugh!

I am wondering the same thing, I had my surgery on July 2. I have had no pain, no discomfort, went back to work on Monday morning. Things have been great. However, last night I laid in bed and tossed and turned ALL NIGHT. I finally went to sleep around 4:30 am and slept until 8 am. Not sure if this is normal, or if there might be something wrong.

Anyone have this problem before?

I'm 14 weeks post-op and have trouble sleeping as well. I asked my PCP and surgeon's office about it and was told Tylenol PM would be fine to take. I take 1-2 every night. It's not ideal but it does the trick.

Perhaps it's your body burning excess energy (fat)!

I found when I am waking up late at night - its gas *burping" or acid reflux. Watch how late you are eating. Once I stopped eating by 6:30 pm (and only drank later), I got back to normal sleeping.

I've been having the same issue the last three nights in a row. For me, the timing of my dinner hasn't made a difference. It's nice to see that I'm not alone!

I've noticed this too. I had insomnia before my surgery but it is much worse now.

Here's a little mental exercise that might help with the insomnia.

Instead of counting sheep, count all the pounds you have already, or plan to lose.

Give them snarky nicknames like: Misery, Pestilence, and Plague. Or even: Fleegle, Snorky, Drooper, and Bingo (although the last four might only work for me, as I'm a closet banana Splits fan).

For good measure give their little butts a big ol' virtual kick too, whenever they're not jumping fast enough to suit you.

Sorry, I'm a recovering masochist - I just can't help myself sometimes. ????

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
