Has anyone venture into drinking something carbonated? Not sodas but maybe fizzy Water? ? Im debating trying it since it will help with water intake but still satisfy my craving for bubbles. What have you all experienced?

Yes and it hurts!

Especially if you can't burp fast enough.

I didn't try any carbonation until about 9 months out. I had a couple of sips of diet soda and it almost killed me! It did not agree with my stomach at all. If I let it sit out a while and let it get a little flat I guess it would be okay. But not worth it to me. I'll stick to Water and iced tea :)

I tried it and I was sleeved 6/18 and it was just a sip. Gave me the Slimes and I eventually puked because it gave me horrible chest pain.

I am finding that I have to experience these horrible things to learn and get over the obsessive cravings for certain food. I literally had a bit of cheeseburger and 3 fries even though I read post about the horror and pain of eating what we shouldn't...and now I'm turned off totally from burgers and fries.

P.S. I'm a nurse and we are notorious for being bad patients. Lol

I have been told by my 'team' not to drink carbonated fluids at all. I think I will stick to it as so many people state it gave them problems, however some say it didn't at all. If you are really desperate ry a small sip and see how you manage it :)

I actually had some a few days ago, I also cut it with some tea too. It wasn't horrible on me as far as gas or feeling uncomfortable. But this was a fountain soda and not one straight from the bottle or can either. At a little over 6 months outs too. I have been mostly on flavored non-carbonated waters like Propel and Power Aid Zero for my liquid needs, when I want something other than just plan Water or coffee.< /p>

I was told by my surgical team to avoid it forever. Besides, sodas are one of the things that got many of us to the place where we needed surgery. Why go back there? fruit juices and ice cream too! :(

Depends on HOW carbonated it is. If its highly carbonated I just can't, but I have ventured back into Diet Coke as a mixer for Captain Morgan when I choose to indulge in an adult libation. Poured in a glass over ice as a mixer the bubbles pretty much go away for me. Its one of the few calorie free and widely available mix options I can get my mits on when out with friends. I do not drink soda "just because" anymore, (and I drank it like Water, at least 6 a day, pre-op).

Yes I have had some diet soda both fountain and from a can and I haven't had any issues with it. I don't do it often but I have done it.

If I drink anything with carbonation I have to have it over ice.

I've had a few sips of soda. It makes me belch for hours. And if it's too soon before or after eating it hurts

I was able to do a Shirley Temple with ease. The Sprite sat very well. Too well, I wish my sleeve had hated it. That's all I have tried, and I drank slowly and burped a lot. No pain though

I have no problems with carbonation, but gave up my bad diet coke habit and have no plans to resume! I can drink beer from a glass and sips from a can or bottle. Fizzy Water would have to be in a glass and a rare thing

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
