T.Whitaker 26 Posted July 7, 2015 One week post op... Are mashed potatoes dangerous? Was gonna add extra milk to think them out
ShrinkingPeach 1,291 Posted July 7, 2015 On my soft food diet I could have instant ones thinned out. Try that if you are allowed.
Mcgann320 26 Posted July 7, 2015 I don't think they're dangerous, try adding some Protein Powder, milk, chicken stock, etc to thin it out and give you as much Protein as you can get, since potatoes are all carbs. I'm not supposed to have any carbs until 3 months out.
no onions 258 Posted July 7, 2015 I made some really yucky ones. I thought I could just puree a can of potatoes. They were like paste and totally gross. They are allowed on my plan, but if I try them again, I'm going with the instant kind suggested by @ShrinkingPeach
MissRobin 93 Posted July 7, 2015 @@no onions canned potatoes .... sounds awful not to mention pureeing them. BLAHHH !!! Maybe we should talk to a cook at an Old Folks Home and some Seniors about the best tasting puree'd food. lol
T.Whitaker 26 Posted July 7, 2015 Right, this is the worst stage in my opinion. I'd rather just drink Water
eisorp 13 Posted July 8, 2015 My doc doesn't allow them at all ????

Invictus 56 Posted July 9, 2015 My post-op plan mentions instant potatoes as well. I was wondering what was wrong with real ones??
molina12340 2 Posted July 10, 2015 Instant mashed potatoes thinned out was something my nutritionist recommended at a week out. She said thin them out so the didn't stock in your throat.
NCTRNL 25 Posted July 10, 2015 I really can't imagine a situation where mashed potatoes would EVER be a good idea. They're pure carbohydrates. Can you have fat free refried Beans? I really like the refried black beans...they were the best during that part of the diet.
kathy0529 41 Posted July 10, 2015 I'm a very picky eater and Mashed Potatoes is a definite for me! I usually don't finish them cause I get full on the 2-3 oz of either chicken or turkey that I have. I don't think I'm doing too bad since I'm down 97lbs since my surgery on Jan. 21, 2015. :-) (that's from my preop weight, fyi - from surgery day it's 80lbs).
