Surgery cancelled 4 days prior...I'm upset

Recommended Posts

I've been working towards my sleeve surgery for almost 2 years now. I did all of my requirements and my insurance approved it. May 15 I broke my ankle. I was not able to put weight on it for a month, I informed my doctor's office. I have a walking boot and have been going to physical therapy 3 or 4 times a week. I can take off the boot and only have to use it to walk now (mostly so I don't hurt it again). I do not have any history of blood clots or problems other than my weight. I just got called this morning that my surgeon won't perform the surgery until my boot is not required for walking and a scan is done on my leg. I will not be able to take time off work again for some time...I can't stop my tears, frustration and depression...

That sounds horrible. I understand where you're coming from. My surgery was postponed twice before I had it done June 25, the second time it was postponed a couple days beforehand too. Work was getting tired of the dates swithed, and I was starting to lose confidence, but you've made it 2 years! You're literally right around the corner from your surgery and your new healthy life. It's going to be all worth it. I'm sorry you broke your ankle, but just think of it this way: You don't want to be hobbling around, in pain from the ankle, in pain from the surgery, it's just going to add more discomfort. Focus on your ankle being totally healed, so that you can devote all of your time and energy into recovery after your wls.

I'm soooo sorry! Don't give up. Everything happens in its own time. You will get there!

Tough deal, especially after breaking your ankle. When the time is right , I think you will love your sleeve. Just remember the sleeve is just a tool. It does help reduce hunger and appetite and does definately limit quantity of food ingested. All that being said, nothing needs to stop you from losing at your own speed until you can receive your sleeve. Frustrating! makes you want to say the "F" word over and over. Do not eat over this! Start working on that sleeve ready body right now!

So sorry to hear about your ankle and the delay in your surgery. I agree with the above advice to use this time to practice your new eating habits and lose what you can prior to surgery. Get that xray done to see how long you will have to wait and work toward getting that boot off when you can. Your surgery WILL happen. everything happens for a reason and your time will come. Hang in there!

Oh and vent away! We are here to listen!

Thank you all for your advice. I'm still just drinking my Protein Drink and pretending it's going to happen. I guess I'll just follow the diet plan that I was going to have to be on pre and post surgery. It sure helps having friends to vent to that understand. Thanks again!

It will come with time, so don't give up. Until this past Friday my surgeon had yet to sign off on my surgery even though my insurance had approved it. This was all due to a sleep study report submitted June 1 that indicated I would benefit from seeing a sleep specialist. I had to contact the sleep specialist to obtain additional information from them to the point of them writing my surgeon explaining that there was no need for the recommendation to delay things. Finally he signed. In the two weeks of fretting and playing phone tag I came to realize that if it was delayed that it wasn't the end of the world. I could still prepare myself for surgery, and be all the more ready when the day came.

Ugh. So sorry to hear that! I can only imagine how frustrating that would be! Wishing you a speedy recovery on the ankle so you can get back on track for your sleeve! !

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
