Medical ID Bracelet Important Information

Recommended Posts

I purchased a stainless steel medical ID Bracelet stating my medication allergy, Gastric Bypass and NO NG Tube. It's very important if you are ever in an accident the emergency personal and ER doctors know you had a gastric bypass. You can not get an NG tube unless done with a scope or Bariatric doctor. These bracelets are not expensive I paid $30.00 for mine on the Internet. It's a very stylish bracelet. The front has a medical insignia with my name and he year I was born (so they know how old I am).

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I got an ID Bracelet brochure at my pharmacy, you wouldn't believe all the styles available! I cant decide which one to get. :)

That has been a big discussion here on and off... But honestly I asked my sister who has been a paramedic for 11 years and she couldn't imagine any reason to ever do an NG tube in the field--no reason getting one in would ever be an emergency. It's for feeding---starvation is not a concern when they are trying to medicinally stabilize a patient in an emergency situation. She's never done one for sure.

I bought mine on Etsy. I have a sleeve tattoo and it was hard to find something that would stick out but this is so cute. I get compliments on it daily and she was very fast fulfilling my order. I highly recommend this shop. Also for anyone who is like me, has nails and refuses to remove jewelry for a shower, this is perfect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
