Psychologist appointment?

Recommended Posts

I've been going to therapy for years. It really helps being able to talk to someone you trust who's impartial. As for the surgery, I went to a psychologist who just goes these evaluations, who was recommended through NYU, and she cleared me right away.

i wish I could go to another psychologist :/

Can you not request a new one? Or find one on your own?

Hey scarlep... The first time i went to the psychologist (April 23) I got denied as well due to being depressed. He told me he couldn't clear me just yet. He recommended i see another therapist in the same practice. I saw that therapist for one session (May 15) ... I saw the first psychologist again today and got cleared. But I'm also in a different state of mind then I was back in April... You have to think positive... All the negative energy you are surrounded by TRY YOUR BEST TO GET RID OF!!!! Only you can make the changes necessary in your life!!!

Wusa girl Wusa.... What i have learned about this journey is that everything is a process... If that other dr doesn't have an appt until August well then take that appt and wait til that date... You still have other requirements that you have to fulfill... If the pysch is the last one then so be it

It's a all a process of what's to come... It will work itself out... Believe me

When did you start?? When do you think you will get surgery done??

My therapist has been a WAY bigger help to me than even my NUT. I didn't realize how desperately I needed to talk to a therapist and thought I would just go once. You do need to have a decent relationship with them, so if you don't like him, perhaps try another one, but don't give up on seeing them. It makes a big difference - even if you don't want to see that right now (I know I didn't). Remember they see a LOT of us patients and know what the struggles are and can help with those before and after they get here. I would encourage you to give it a chance.

@@scarlep - Oh it was definitely weird the first time and I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to cancel - and I actually like my therapist! :) It is an uncomfortable situation to talk but it will help. If nothing else just to learn their tips and tricks for dealing with post-op emotions and helping you identify your triggers for wanting to eat.

I think everyone is nervous about seeing a psychologist. I know I was! But it's for our mental stability. This surgery is a very emotional process. Don't stress over it. You will be ok. Like I told my psychologist "Are any of us really normal?!"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
