July 13, RNY

Recommended Posts

Glad I found you. It's nice to be here! I'm having gastric bypass surgery on July 13. I wanted to know how everyone's experience has been going. Lots of helpful information to be found here.

My peak weight was 338 in April 2014. I started my 6-month PCP supervised diet in December 2014, when I weighed 326. At the end of the diet in June 2015, I weighed 265, so I've lost around 70 since my peak.

I'm halfway through the 2-week liquid diet, and it's as miserable as everyone says it is, so I'm glad that we're all in agreement on that. The first two days were the worst, and I almost quit. I didn't quit, and now the diet sucks less. Still not great, but the Bariatric Advantage shakes seem to do the trick. Also I get one BA bar per day, and all the sugar free Jello and sugar free Popsicles I can stand. Yay jello!

Thanks! Good luck to you all!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
