@rgodfrey09@mlfontan No I have not yet but today I was testing some menus on MFP that were at about the 50gm carb range. To see what I could eat. Basically I would have to go back

To 2 shakes a day and one meal. My BIG PROBLEM is that I take 17 meds a day. Which means that it has affected the GERD condition greatly. I'm now having reflux almost daily. What I had to do before is take the meds with milk every 4hrs which ups the carbs. My sx office said yesterday to see the Gastro. If they confirm the GERD is too severe which they told me is a risk with the VSG, then they would recommend I have a recession to a RNY.???? I NEED to STOP THE GAIN, loose 30 lbs TO MEET GOAL, get the GERD UNDER CONTROL, cause I can't stop taking the other meds. HELP!!!????????????

@@mlfontan, I don't have any advice other than to go back to basics (focus on your Water and Protein, and eliminate starches (rice, Pasta, bread)).

You might have better luck getting responses if you start your own thread with your specific concerns.

@@BLERDgirl Oh trust me I was never under the illusion that once you get to goal voila it's over. I know I'll def have to watch what I eat forever, that's a given. That being said losing your initial weight versus maintaining is a different battle and I'll happily take the latter. Anyways thanks for your feedback. It's great to hear from someone with similar issues who gets it and has found a way to make it work. At least I know I'm not alone which is all that really matters.

A lot of folks have had great experiences and good for you, I cheer for you, feel ecstatic (I really really do) when I see your numbers and when you post your progress pics and hope that will be me soon. My experience might be different from yours and that's fine, it doesn't take away from your reality. There is no absolute VSG narrative, we all have different stories. And really this isn't some sort of public trial where I need to prove myself for you to believe what I say. 'Well you didn't do xyz....Huh? How do you know? Who are you to say? Feel or think whatever but your opinion is your opinion not fact, respectfully state it as such if you contribute.

Anyways anyone with similar issues can feel free to DM me as your perspective and advice is always appreciated and would love to stay connected. I think it's time to take this to the pros & do some tests. I've said what I need to say and won't be expounding on this any more, it's a wrap for me. Thanks everyone ????

what @innersurfergirl said... and, I hate to suggest this, but my backup has always been "if 3 years out I'm not happy, I can always 'complete' the DS"...

Ok. So what I am hearing is ...to lose one must get in 60-70grams of Protein. And 20-40 grams of carbs.

And 64 Oz. Of Water a day. Is this right.?

I have been stalled for about 3 weeks. The scale is fluctuating between 198 and 197. My goal is 150. I was sleeved on 3/25/15. Surgery weight was 227. I want to lose. I obviously need to change something. But I'm not sure what.

Most people try to keep carbs at 50 or lower. Most doctor's recommend at least 60gms of Protein. My carbs run higher because I'm vegetarian so a lot of my plant base Proteins contain carbs. My carbs run in the 50 - 70 range. I also find I lose better when my Protein is at least 75gms or higher

@@MoJo119 are you tracking your food? The only way I figured out what works for me was by examining my food log.

If you are not sure what to do, talk to your NUT. You should have a very specific Protein goal based on your needs.

Current recommendations, as I understand them are 80++ grams of Protein a day for most of us - but it depends on your weight, activity, build etc.

I don't normally track (been in maintenance for awhile) but did a few days as a check in and was shocked I was only getting 60. I was telling a pal who works as a dieticien in a bariatric unit... she looked at me and said "with your muscular build, you need WAY more than that". Even as a veteran, it was an eye opener/wake up!

84lbs is a huge loss. It's easy to look at the negatives but think about all the positives!! You've actually lost weight where before you've not been able to.

I mean what is normal? Nothing! I think that as long as you get healthy you'll be happy.

Maybe have a talk to your counsellor, sometimes all you need is a little positive reinforcement.

Think about how far you've come. YOU did that. No one else ☺️

I understand your frustration and the whole process before during and long life is hard. I am a nurse case manager and have many patients go for this surgery and I have seen all kind of results, I just went for this surgery myself on 11/25/15, Do not give up, you might not have had many health problems at the former weight, but that was just waiting to happen. Do not give up. Did you ever try to go to the pool and do Water walking, you can research on google and I have also seen people reset their diet with doing fluids for some days. It is important to change your exercise as well. The Water intake and Protein requirements will not change, I am sorry you are hungry, but if you drink more water that might help.

Good luck and be proud of what you have accomplished.

So a little bit of a backstory. I've been overweight my entire life, from child to adult. I have never know what it's like to be thin. Yo yo'ed all my life and was never succesful and unfortunately I think there's a genetic element. Almost everyone on my mom's side is obese.

When I started researching VSG I was around 330 and seeing the amazing results on this site helped me make the decision. I was so excited to get the procedure and go on this journey. Going into surgery I was around 322 and given how high I started I had very lofty expectations. I easily expected to lose 50 pounds in 3 months. Ha, as the saying goes the best laid plans.

I'm 1.5 years out and let me tell you at no stage (other than the 2 week liquid diet where I lost 22 pounds) have a experienced any rapid weight loss. It's almost as if my body doesn't want to let go. I'm now around 262 pounds and let me tell you it's been a slow arduous process. Any time I think of how I expected things to turn out and how they actually are I just break down and cry. I'm still obese, sure I've lost a couple of dress sizes but the gut is still there. And it's not even about hitting the exact goal weight, it's the fact that I'm very big. I've been wallowing in depression for a while and keep thinking to myself why is God punishing me? If there's one thing I've wanted my entire life, it was to be normal sized and I viewed VSG as my last chance. Of course my dedication has waned, though I still work out 3x times a week. It's sad particularly when I read the amazing results others have had on here but I'm starting to think this might be it. Maybe just do the best I can and be happy with the 60 pound loss.

Man, I'm absolutely devastated. And the thing is I'm one the younger side and didn't have health issues other than high BP so this was more about aesthetics, losing the weight being more confident to pursue relationships(single, no kids)/be more social. Now it seems like I'm in a holding pattern and I'm alive but not really living.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
