CMDD71 9 Posted July 5, 2015 Just wanted to ask if anyone else is having any mood issues since surgery. I have found that I can be very iratable in the mornings. I have to be really aware of my reactions from about 6:30 until 9:30am. I assume it has to do with low energy (no Protein intake during the night). If anyone else has similar issues, how do you, did you handle it? Prior to surgery I was nearly always in a good mood.
James Marusek 5,244 Posted July 5, 2015 Some people who had RNY surgery suffer from low blood sugar after surgery. I don't know if duodenal switch patient also are affected by this condition. One of the symptoms of low blood sugar is irratability and personality changes. If this condition becomes severe, you may find yourself fainting. So if you begin to show other symptoms, you might look into this.
Daisee68 2,493 Posted July 5, 2015 I've always been grumpy in the mornings - but agree it has gotten a little worse since surgery. For me, it is a lot about being overwhelmed right now with making the right choices. Hoping it passes.
CMDD71 9 Posted July 6, 2015 Thanks for the responses. I will keep the low blood sugar level in mind, but hopefully as I move into solid foods this issue will improve. I meet with a nutrionist on Saturday, hopefully she can give me some added pointers. Will share if she does.
finediva 979 Posted July 6, 2015 Did you give up coffee? I started my days with coffee. .strong coffee laced with sugar. Giving that up caused major depression and low energy until my system adjusted. About 6 months after surgery I eased my way back to regular coffee. I just missed it. No suger.....never sugar again, but I love having my coffee back in my morning.
CMDD71 9 Posted July 6, 2015 I gave up all caffeine a month before surgery knowing that withdrawal symptoms would be an added challenge I did not need post surgery.
