Curious about steps before you book a date

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I'm new to this. On July 1st doctor said she's onboard for surgery. I had an endoscopy 3 months prior for me GERD issue, so surgeon said don't need to do that part. I've already done the pulmonary testing the lab work. I have my cardiac clearance this week and have an appointment for the NUT , nurse and PCP . Next week. Seems to be moving quickly. My insurance covers it 100% I had called before I even seen doctor. Am wondering how long out (just rough ideas) my surgery will be?

Ask your surgeon's office. If there are no insurance-mandated wait times, it will depend on your surgeon's schedule once you have completed all the testing and have your last pre-op surgical appointment.

As soo as they get all the results you can book it. I would think about 3-5 weeks, depending on how busy the surgeon is??

Once I had all my tests/requirements in to the dr office, I was able to book my surgery. I'm self pay. Started all my tests on June 1 and had surgery on June 30. It was a busy month!

It will depend on your surgeon's schedule. When I got my lap band in 2012 it was 2 months from the time insurance approved me.

For my sleeve revision last month it was 2 weeks from the time insurance approved it. Total difference.

Before I could schedule a date I had to complete an information session, then a consult with the surgeon, followed by blood work, meeting with a psychologist, and completion of a sleep study. Once all results were received I was then able to schedule the surgery. All of this took about 5 weeks. From the time I scheduled my surgery to the actual date will be about 5 weeks. I just met with the Nut today, and this is at the 2 week pre-op phase.
