I had my first appointment on 4/22 and my surgery is scheduled for July 30th. I was approved in early June but due to other commitments I can't have surgery until July 30th. I have BCBS of NC.

I work for the surgeon who did my sleeve and our fastest has been 3 weeks from initial consult to surgery. It was an insurance plan that required 6 months monitored weight loss but the patient had completed that before seeing us. It can be done!

Attended seminar end of May. First consult in June. Took off July for family events. Approved in August, surgery in September. My program requires 3 monthly meetings with the team, the usual preop testing, 1 2 hour nutrition class, and a psych eval.

First visit with doctor on June 9th. Surgery approved July 14th. Surgery tomorrow morning the 29th of July :)

Would have been faster but there were issues finding a nutritionist. I expect I lost about 2 weeks. Certainly no big deal!

It's dependent on your insurance.

But my first appt just to see if I qualified was Feb. 11th and my surgery was March 25th.

For revisions how long on average does one have to await approval?

it depends on your insurance. I had my first visit with the surgeon in July. Needed 3 monthly visits with my NUT. The surgeon's office gave me a list of what I needed, which was a psyc eval, chest x-ray, EKG and pulmonary function test. I received my approval from insurance on 10/23/2015. I scheduled my surgery for December 2nd. I could have had the surgery before Thanksgiving but I have to prepare things financially before I could do the surgery.

I had my consultation June 26 and approved for surgery Oct 16. So i would say that is 3 months a half. My surgery is scheduled for Nov 9th.

Yes. First NUT appt Jun 4. First surgical consult June 29 -- he cleared me for surgery pending completion of the other steps (psych, EKG, upper GI, etc). Second NUT appt July 30. Insurance approved Aug 25. Surgery Sept 1. Total time from first NUT visit to surgery was less than 3 months.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
